My family history also centres around this area.
The confusion lies as this area is a 'Marshes' town; Along the Offers Dyke, the border between England and Wales. This border has been fluid.
The census sometimes records Welsh place names and sometimes English.
Point being my family are from Bettws-y-Crwyn [English] Cefn Calanog/ Ceffncullonog [Welsh].
However, you'll find my family Morris in the Black mountain census's. Black mountain refers to the Hamlet/Area. The individual house names were not recorded. Your guess is as good as mine as to why. Maybe they were known as The Morris house, maybe cause they were too low class, or insignificant.
