Hi all
Yes, I saw John & Mary Bristow also. Brother? Cousin?

I don't know how to access a marriage certificate. Do you?

Thanks.

Hi CaroleW

I have the certificate for the first 1830 marriage, and I see the witnesses are Daniel Kerswell (bride Patience Kerswell's brother) and William Milton/ Mitton. I don't see a father's name.

Sorry, I don't have the certificate for the second marriage with Fanny Chittenden, 15 Sep 1853 in Maidstone, Kent. It is in Vol 2a page 461.

Thanks for your help.

« on: Wednesday 22 January 20 01:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Devon Lookup help:
I hope you can help locate birth, baptism or parents/siblings for:

Benjamin BRISTOW, Stone mason,
1841 census, residence Tiverton, Devon, birthdate abt 1816.He states birthplace of Sher Bampton, Devon
1851 census,  residence Aylesford, East Malling, Kent, birthplace Bampton, Devon birthdate abt 1810
1861 census, residence Mile End Old Town, Middlesex,  birthplace Bampton, Devon birthdate abt 1811

He m. Patience Kerswell, baptised 1813 Wiveliscombe, Somerset, England, on 9 Sep 1830 in Wiveliscombe, Somerset, England.

So birthdate must be between 1810 and 1816.

I appreciate any help or advice on this.

Hi Aghdowey:

I appreciate your speedy and complete replies. You have confirmed for me that finding records for these people (and many others  in my family tree, earlier in the same NI communities) just may not be possible. It become more of a history and less of a genealogy project.

I did learn that by 1901 Mulhollands were Catholics, Methodists, as well as Presbyterians... which was interesting and surprising. So I will look harder at the RC parish records.

Thanks for your help and support.

Re broken links: Under Ireland/Tyrone

These are under County Tyrone and under Ireland--General. I didn't check any Catholic resources or those pointing to info after 1750, which is most of what is posted.

Flagged as suspicious, click I'm not a robot, and nothing happens for the next 2:

All of these are broken or lead to ads only.
Yes, American sources are complete and searchable online. The tricky part is to find records of the individuals and families before they show up in New England.

Thanks for the links you've just shared.

Hello

I'm looking for usable free resources for Presbyterian births, baptisms, marriages and deaths/burials in Tyrone and NI for those who emigrated to the US or back to Scotland in the 1700-1760 period.

James J MULHOLLAND/MULHOLLEN/MULHOLON/HOLLAND or similar, born 1733 in Balleygawley, Tyrone.  He may have emigrated to America in 1750. He married Mary/Molly Bell in 1755 in Worcester, Massachusetts.

A John MULHOLLAND/MULHOLLEN/MULHOLON/HOLLAND or similar, born about 1734 in Belfast, Antrim, also emigrated about 1805 with wife Christina/Christian, sons John, born 1754,  James, born 1759 or 1769,   Daniel March 8, 1772 , all in Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland and may be related.

A number of the links for this topic are no longer working.

Any advice and or help appreciated.

Sincerely,
Ann

Hello Osprey and Rootschat members:

Many thanks for your thorough and very quick (within a couple of hours) help finding accurate information. I'm now able to toss some inaccurate links I and make solid progress in the right direction. When I know the right parish, the free database you pointed to is perfect.

The data you turned up meshes with some family letters from the period so I know those are the right people. I just couldn't find the right documentation without access to the witnesses, home parish info which isn't indexed on other sites.

I wish I had turned to you earlier. Thanks again for offering your expertise to beginners who don't know the genealogy resources or the geography very well yet.

Sincerely

Abvdc

Hello, and many thanks for your help.

Mary (Mary Jane on death registry, Michigan, 1880)
HOCKIN or Hockins/Hawken/Hocking etc
born in Cornwall about 1805,

LOOKING FOR HER PARENTS/SIBLINGS AND HOME PARISH, PLEASE
About 20 Cornish girls with similar names were baptised 1803-1807...

She was possibly baptised Oct 1807 in St Hilary, Cornwall, parents Sampson Hocking  1764 d 1833 and Elizabeth unknown (Elizabeth Paul 1770- 1834? Elizabeth Bennett/s?)

She married Peter Benalack/Benallack/Benalac or similar born 1804 (born in Veryan)  in Veryan, Cornwall on 20 May 1832 (Just one marriage.)

They emigrated to Ohio and Michigan, USA about 1854 with 4 children born in Veryan:
John Henry Benallack b 1833
Anna Marie/Maria Benallack b 1836
Mary Ann Hocking Benallack b 1842
Philip Peter Benallack b 1845.

ALSO LOOKING FOR DETAILS ON EMIGRATION, SHIP PASSAGE, ETC.

She died in Michigan in 1880, so no one who died in Cornwall is a match.

I need this info for a 90th birthday present for my mother: Mary Hockin Benalack was her great grandmother.

Sincerely,
Ann
