Tazzie and Rosie99

Thank you, that is so vital to this, I had no idea it would be that easy to fib !

So, if this is right and you have pretty much nailed it down, I'm not a Hessian at all !
OK, going to take a minute to think about that.  And no longer Irish !!

I am forever in you debt.   Thank you   Michael

Tazzie,  you are a star!

William and Merry   I'm thinking too much of a coincidence !

I will see if I can find out where he was in mid 1854.

as always, thank you.

Michael

Hi Tazzie

OHHHH  I think I have the mariage details of Joseph and Sarah Jane, but not the full certificate so thank you !!

Yes, Sarah's father was William Bennett.  And Joseph's mother, Esther, her father was William Shaw.

Could he have been able to do this with no questions asked ?

As always, many thanks  Michael

Hi Rosie99

Absolutely right !   Esther is my GG grandmother.  and Joseph James Merry Hessian my Great Grandfather.  I have pretty well established that Esthers husband, Denis Hessian went to Corfu in 1853 with the 48th Regiment.   So hes not Joseph's father as the regiment went to the Crimea straight from Corfu.  I will get the muster rolls when I can, but I'm pretty sure he's not around.
So yes, I'm looking for Joseph's father !!

Heyward,  Thank you very much for all the information.  I am learning that you do indeed need to be careful !
I am very pleased I have pretty well fixed Denis, birth, army, probably gone to Corfu and then disappeared.  I shall research the muster rolls and see if that brings him up.

Many thanks,  Michael

Northamptonshire / Work house, Daventry Union

First, apologies as I'm new to this !
I have a birth record from May 1855.  States Daventry Union.  Which comes up on google as the local workhouse   Is this correct ?
I also have a census record and an army record of around the same time with location Daventry Union.  Which seems to be an administrative area of Northamptonshire.
Confused !
Any help very welcome.
