Antrim / Re: General help needed - can't find death registry entry

There are ways you might be able to narrow down entries in institutions. For example, select religion, marital status and place of birth to see if anything jumps out as worth investigating. Also, although they can be incorrect, ages might help- I usually do not put an age into search box but after the results show then sort by age.

Donegal / Re: McCauley & Gill Families Moville

If the family were Catholic and from Moville then there are parish registers online (births, marriages & some deaths from 1847).
https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0376
Unfortunately no earlier church records seem to survive-
https://www.johngrenham.com/records/rc_church.php?churchid=0376&parish=Moville

If Moville is not the correct parish you can use the first site to find other parishes.
If the family were not Catholic then you can use the 2nd site to see what records for other denominations might exist.

Wexford / Re: Name of Informant on 1867 Birth Registration?

Agree with Janey or Joney and Cozens as surname. Can't see Christian name as Jessey.

Link works for me and I'm on Chrome  :)

Since it's by 'her mark' we know informant was female. I think first name begins with the letter J (see J in John in entry just above) and ends in the letter Y. Possibly JANEY?
Surname a bit harder- begins with the letter C (see Catherine written out for 2 informants above). Thought first it was Carew but looking closer there seems to be a letter that hangs down. Would checking Griffith's Valuation for that townland give any clues?

Europe / Re: Searching for a secret marriage in France - early 1900s

It is all a bit confusing, giblet.

According to the summary (link provided in original post here) "together with a photocopied ms letter (1p) from J W Allen informing his daughter-in-law that her husband, Captain William Ruskin Allen, has been reported missing in action and advising her to "keep a stiff upper lip", plus a photograph of Captain Allen in a German prisoner of war camp." If P.H. Allen died in 1915 and W.R. Allen was taken P.O.W. in 1918 then the photo in German camp had to have been added to the other papers after P.H. Allen died.

The missing letter seems to have been in P.H. Allen's paper's but it also could have been put with his letters after he died in 1915. If that's the case then could the bride from the 1917 marriage (Lydia Jane Duncombe) have been the daughter-in-law mentioned? It looks like she gave birth to a son but died 1918 (influenza perhaps?). Perhaps either his wife died shortly before he became a P.O.W. or that he originally listed his father as next of kin and it wasn't changed when he married.

See reply #18 for information which rules out wife being Lydia Jane Duncombe.

I think that lane beside Wynn's is part of Harbour Court, which is a little to the west of where Union lane/street was

It's shown on the openstreetmap for Dublin

You could be right- some maps clearly show Harbour Court running parallel to Lower Abbey Street and Eden Quay and then near Wynne's Hotel running between both streets.

Is it not Private P. H. Allen who died on 22 May 1915?

Quote
letters written home by Private P H Allen during his service with the 10th Battalion Alberta Regiment, Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) on the Western Front, May 1915, containing graphic descriptions of his involvement in the Second Battle of Ypres, just before his death in action on 22 May 1915

Don’t know much about Belfast records,
There is this site.
https://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/births-deaths-and-ceremonies/burial-records/search-for-a-burial-record
I’m sure there will be others who know Belfast records much better than me.
That site covers burials at Belfast City Cemetery, Roselawn and Dundonald. If you don't find the person you are looking for check to see if any family buried there then on their page click on the link to check other burials in the same plot.
Lots of Belfast people burial at Carnmoney also-

You can search deaths on GRONI as well- https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/

It would also be worth search for a death before 1901 census if you haven't done so already in cause the husband should have been listed as widower rather than married.

You can also search Irish newspapers on Find My Past- free searches can provide quite a bit of detail with persistence and luck-

There's an alley that run between Lower Abbey Street and Eden Quay. You can see it still from both streets but it's clearer on Google Street view from Lower Abbey Street. If you go there and face Wynn's Hotel then the alleyway shows up on right side of the building and you can see if comes out to Eden Quay. Could this be what was Union Street?
