Thanks Fiddlerslass for all of your efforts and the interesting links.

Yes, I noticed that Albert gave his place of birth as either "Prussia" or "Germany" on different censuses.  They also seem to use both spellings of "Skowron(n)ek".

Not having much luck on this one, but Albert/Adalbert gives birthplace as Prussia on one English census, which would have included Rheinland.
There do not seem to be any naturalization papers for either son in the National archives. Hennweiler records are not digitised on Archion yet. The ones on familysearch are too early and only available to view at their centres.

I also found no mention in the online German newspaper archives at

https://www.deutsche-digitale-bibliothek.de/newspaper?lang=en

Interestingly,  using the more usual spelling of Skowronek, looking at a surname distribution map of Germany there is a large group in the western state of Nordrhein-Westfalen, although the surname is of Polish origin.

Looking at a distribution map for Poland it is concentrated in the Voivodeships of Silesia (śląskie ) and to a lesser extent in Lower Poland(małopolskie)and Opole(opolskie).

Using Gedbas, the majority of entries are from Ost Prussia/ Poland/Silesia

Australia / Re: Ellen Collins m. Michael Delaney in Yass 1842, died 1843

Thank you for your replies.

Michael Delaney b. 1846 is the son Michael Delaney and his second wife Catherine Hanon.  I'm looking for information about his first wife, Ellen Collins (m. 1842, d. 1843).

It's extremely unlikely that Ellen Collins was born in Yass in 1822 if she was European, as a mtDNA test confirms.

Do you have the marriage certificate of Michael DELANEY and Ellen COLLINS. As you probably know, the area code "LF" on the NSW BDM means Yass, Roman Cathoilic. What information does it give about her?
Thank you. Yes, I know that it was a Catholic marriage but, no, I don't have the marriage certificate yet. The transcript of their marriage record on Find My Past has no other information about her but I will check the actual certificate.

Cheers

Bill

Hello

I'm looking for information about Reinhold Skowronnek whom Ancestry.com shows as being born in 1820 in Hennweiler, Bad Kreuznach, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany and is the father of Aldeburt Frederick Skowronnek (1844-1926) and William Julius Hermann Skowronnek (1847-1888). Both sons immigrated to London.

I'd like to confirm those details and find any other information concerning the family in Germany (Prussia?), such as where the sons were born and when they immigrated.

Thanks

Bill

Australia / Ellen Collins m. Michael Delaney in Yass 1842, died 1843

Hello

I'm looking for information about Ellen Collins who married Michael Delaney (ex convict) in Yass in 1842 and died 1843.

Please note that a recent mtDNA test confirms that she was not Aboriginal (as some have suggested) but European, probably Irish.

There is an old thread which mentions “two sisters, Ellen & Mary Collins who arrived on the Duchess of Northumberland 3rd Oct 1836. They turned up in Yass...”.

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=159119.msg1721092#msg1721092

Does anyone know when this Ellen Collins was in Yass and what became of her?

Thanks

Bill

Fife / David Douglas and Margaret Campbell (married 18/11/1803 Collessie)

Hello

I recently found this old thread with some helpful photos (thank you!) of Douglas graves in the Collessie Parish cemetery:
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=527727.msg4710053#msg4710053

I'm particularly interested in David Douglas (1785(?)-1856) and his wife Margaret Campbell (1774-1857), married 18/11/1803, Collessie.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has information about them.  In particular, I've seen some ancestry sites which suggest that this David Douglas is the son of Sholto Douglas and Mary Bruce (married in Auchtermuchty 18/7/1782) and I'd like to know if that is correct.

Thanks

Bill
