Shropshire Lookup Requests / LOOKUP PLEASE: Owen Family, Shrewsbury c1822
« on: Sunday 12 December 10 07:57 GMT (UK)  »
My 2nd great grandmother, Martha Owen, was born in Westbury c1822 and married a Charles Griffiths Jones on 23rd July 1848 in Shrewsbury.  Martha died 2nd January 1864 aged 41 of a diseased liver.  In the 1841 Census, Martha is shown as living in Coleham with her father, John (a Porter) and siblings but no mother is shown.  I am trying to find out her mother's name and would welcome any suggestions as to where I could look.   ???

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Norman Family of Woburn, Lookup pre-1837
« on: Saturday 17 July 10 13:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

My 2nd great grandmother, Phoebe Fanny Norman, was born 01-Sep-1839 in Woburn, Bedfordshire to parents Samuel Norman and Mary Dawborne.  Samuel and Mary were married in October 1828 in Woburn.

I am searching for any birth records/info on Samuel Norman.  I know that he was born in Woburn c1802 but the year may be wrong.  He was an agricultural labourer and he worked on "Jobs Farm"??? in Woburn.

Can anyone look up and pre-1837 registers for Woburn please or point me in the right direction.

Many thanks,
Debbie

Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Henton Family
« on: Sunday 18 April 10 06:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to find further info on a JOHN HENTON.  He was born c1814 in Llandewi and married Maria Davies between 1830-1840.  They went on to have 8 children that I know of, the first (I think) being born 1841 (Mary) in Lampeter/Narberth.

I would like to know more info on John's parents/family and if a marriage date can be located for John and Maria.  Maria was born c1814 Llawhaden.  John was a farmer/labourer.

Probably looking for a needle in a haystack but hopefully someone out there might be able to help.

Cheers,

Debbie

Lancashire / Inquest Copies
« on: Tuesday 30 June 09 05:31 BST (UK)  »
I have, just by pure coincidence, a husband and wife who both had inquests into their deaths.  The first was in August 1897 when Thomas Ward "hanged himself whilst temporarily insane".  The inquest was held 11th August 1897.

The second is his wife, Ann Ward, in August 1934 with the cause of death "Accidental:  Head injuries and concussion sustained through falling downstairs at her residence on date of death".  The inquest was held 7th August 1934.

Can anyone please help me as to where I can obtain copies of these inquests?  They both died in Preston, Lancashire and as I am in Perth, Australia I obviously can't physically visit but if I know where to write or a website to look at, it would be a great help.

Hoping someone can help. :D

Wexford / Fortunes of Wexford
« on: Monday 04 May 09 13:57 BST (UK)  »
I know this is a long shot, but I'm trying to find out about the Fortune family of Wexford but have no idea where to look.

My 3rd great grandfather was a Nicholas Fortune born c1836 Wexford.  I have been unable to locate him in the 1841 and 1851 census returns but he married Jane Young in Pembrokeshire, Wales in June 1856.  It appears he made the move between Ireland and Wales between 1851 and 1856 and his occupation listed on his marriage certificate is "Malitia Man" and his residence is the barracks at Pembroke Dock.  Obviously enlisted in some sort of army????  His father is listed as an Edward Fortune - occupation Farmer.  Nicholas and Jane were married in the registry office.

Does anyone have any idea how I could go about find out more information on this family?

Thanks.
