Down / Re: Roy in County Down
« on: Sunday 31 August 08 07:41 BST (UK)  »
Dear Gary and Carol

I think that the John Roy, Kinallen, Dromore Parish, Tithes 1834 may be part of my tree.  I have James Roy 1833 son of John Roy and Esther Flanneghan married to my 2nd great grandaunt Rebecca Clark in Greenock, Scotland in 1859.  The birth record for James in Dromore states his mother is Esther Branaghan but it's really close.  I just need to confirm the birth of his sister Catherine in about 1838 as she married Rebecca Clark's brother James Clark and they are my 2nd great grandparents.  So if anyone has a Catherine Roy born in this parish could you please let me know.  I was unable to located James Roy and Rebecca Clark in the UK after the birth of their third child Mary Ann Roy in 1872 so perhaps they went to USA.  Kindest regards Valster

Hi Everyone,

Just a query, has anyone heard of a picture being put on a mirror?  And if so how would one go about getting a copy?  It's from the 1930s I guess (I haven't actually seen it) so perhaps they etched the image on.  Any ideas?

Tyrone / Catholic Stewarts in Tyrone
« on: Saturday 12 January 08 12:10 GMT (UK)  »
MIA, Alexander Stewart born c1818 in Tyrone, married in Scotland 1844 to Elizabeth Feeney of Roscommon.  Both Catholics, Alexander and his four youngest children went AWOL after the death of Elizabeth Feeney in 1869, can't find them in the 1871 Scottish census so perhaps they returned to Ireland.

The four kids were back in Scotland by 1875 as one of them Annie Stewart 1852 was married and stated her father Alexander Stewart as deceased.  Other children include John 1845, Alexander 1846, Maryann 1849, Daniel 1854, Elizabeth 1857 and Margaret Jane 1860.  If anyone has Stewart lines with these given names please drop me a line.  Thanks and happy new year.  Valster

Dear Christopher,

Good point, I will remember to include that detail in all my future postings.  They are Roman Catholics.  I have the Carter family in Port Glasgow Scotland for the 1881 census and they all lived their lives there except Patrick 1865 who disappeared between the census.  Thanks for your reply,

Valster

Hi, have this picture from our family album but no one knows who she is.  If anyone can give a rough date this would help me to eliminate some people off the list.  Thanks so much.

We have a photo of some student's outside this school building, their board is marked with the school name and the year 1924.  My grandmother was in Ireland with her relatives and we assume that she is in the photograph.  Does anyone know if this school was in Tyrone possibly around Carvan or Aughamullen.  Thanks

Renfrewshire / Re: Mary McCabe - Death by Carbonic Acid Poisoning!

Dear WM

Thanks for the contact for the Library, I really didn't think they would have time to look it up for me but they did so big thanks to you both.  Here is what the article said:

About half-past nine o'clock last night the body of Mary McCabe or Clark, wife of James Clark, a holder-on, residing at 59 Church Street, was found concealed in a clothes chest in the house there.  The matter was at once reported to the police, and they had Dr McBryde sent for, but he could only pronounce life extinct.  Death was due to suffocation.  It is not known how deceased came to be in the chest but it is believed that while under the influence of liquor she fell inside, and being unable to extricate herself death ensued as stated above.

What a sad story and a new motto 'Don't drink on an empty chest'.  I haven't come across your Clarks yet in my tree, mine hail from somewhere in Ireland but were in Scotland from about 1845.

Bless you again.  Valster
