Haven't been on here for some time but would be good to chat to see if we have any ancestors in common.

I'm ok with John however, he was a bit of a rascal and got himself transported in 1833, but that's another story!!!  It's his father Charles and mother Sophia who are the mystery.  Have no leads on where they died, married, came from, or were born - thought they may have been among the German immigrants.

Hi Val

There a re a number of German churches round Leman Street that may be able to help you. I did have contact details for a Catholic one but that was on my old laptop that had an argument with a glass of coke! As I understand from my own German ancestors, they all seemed to live around the church of their particular faith, not many seem to have strayed too far away for some reason.

Hope this helps and isn't just waffle  ;D

US Lookup Requests / Re: 1860 and 1870 census lookup - Koenig COMPLETED

I have just discovered some paperwork my mum had that this family in Pennsylvania isn't the family I was looking for, our Jacob Koenig was already dead in 1875.  :(

The children I found with Jacob and Elisabeth on the 1880 census are:
Peter A. Koenig 17
Michael D. Koenig 13
Lena A. Koenig 7

This is all the information I have though. It does seem to fit sort of as Catherine was married in London in 1870 so wouldn't have been with the family in 1880, or, it could just be a coincidence!   :-\

US Lookup Requests / 1860 and 1870 census lookup - Koenig COMPLETED

I have found on the 1880 US census for Verona, Allegheny, Pennsylvania a family who I think might be my 3 x great Grandmother's family. The head of the household is Jacob b 1822 in Germany and his wife is Elisabeth (also spelt Elisebeth) I am struggling though to find their possible daughter Catherine (Catharina) b 1851 so any help would be very gratefully received  :)

Thanks
Sarah

Hi all,

I'm amazed by the speed of all your replies, thanks.  :)
Anie, you're quite right, that was info that I gave to the sugar bakers site. Apparently, in the 1800s Germans were the best sugar bakers in Europe.

DS, thanks for finding Catherine's death entry. I'll definitely order the cert and make sure it is her although I have a feeling it probably is.  :( And I was really interested to see Catherine there with her step family, must have been awful for her when you think about it. I can't wait to tell my mum as we've both searched for her with no luck. My mum feels some kind of affinity with her being a 5th generation Catherine in our family  ;D

Thanks again to all of you, certainly a lot of leads to keep me busy

Hi,

I don't know if you've already been in touch with them but they definitely do have the records there although not all of them are computerised. I think they have up to about 1900 ish but can't remember what they said when I spoke to them.
I have some relatives there too but haven't got round to going there myself which, if I remember rightly, is how they prefer to do the searches.

Good luck with your search

I am new here and am interested in finding my Great Great Great Grandparents, John and Catherine Stop(p)elcamp. They married in Whitechapel in 1870 and it appears they then emigrated to America although Catherine returned to England and remarried. I believe John was killed in a mining accident in the US.
They had 2 daughters, Mary and Catherine. Their daughter Catherine was born in New York in 1873 or 1874 and married a Michael Regan in London 1898. John Stoppelcamp is listed as being a sugar baker so any help would be fantastic, thanks.  :)
