Pulmonary Apoplexy,

What a lovely picture, medals worn with pride and that is how it should be, sadly my father in law didn't apply  for his medals, I have no  Idea why but I find that incredibly sad.

LM

LM,  if you know what medals your father-in-law was entitled to you can always buy replica medals. Unlike WW1 medals WW2 meals were not routinely stamped with  the name and number on the rim, those you find that are stamped have usually been done by the recipient.

You don’t give any indication as to his nationality, was he Belgian or British, if British have you checked  to see if the death was recorded by the British Consulate. If so you should be able it obtain a British death certificate.

One thing to consider is the circumstances, if the parents divorced, or one of them was widowed and then remarried. If they wanted the new spouse to have equal legal parental rights, the children would be adopted by both the  birth parent and the new spouse.

I found a family Bible for sale in an antiquarian bookshop. I have also obtained old family documents by simply doing a Google search of the family names. It’s always worth a try.

A lot of nonconformists were baptised in both non and C of E  churches to ensure they qualified for parish assistance.

A lot of my paternal line were nonconformist and were baptised in both.

I’m not particularly familiar with the American rules of consanguinity, but I believe they are stricter than in the UK.

Hopefully someone with greater knowledge will be able to answer your  question.

No sign of service record for him, but over 60% of WW1 records were lost in WW2.
