Stirlingshire / Re: DEMPSTER or CARNIE in Denny or Larbert
« on: Saturday 13 May 17 19:37 BST (UK)  »
I did find out a bit more about that Carnie link; the minister in Denny at the time of my ancestor's birth was a John Dempster, and his wife's name was Isabella Carnie. So my ancestor was given the first name, and both surnames as middle names, I guess in honour of this couple, who perhaps were good to the family.

Rev. & Mrs Dempster's daughter Mary married another minister, John Fergusson, and some of their children also had Carnie as a middle name.

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Ipswich RO - diaries of KW BOYNES
« on: Monday 23 January 17 17:42 GMT (UK)  »
I've recently noticed that Ipswich Records Office holds diaries (or log books) of a KW Boynes, recording air raids in Ipswich and the surrounding area from 1939-45. (Ref HD3071). I wonder if these diaries were compiled by my mother's cousin, Kenneth William Boynes; however, he would have been a boy of 11 in 1939 (I believe he was later a town councillor).

If anyone is visiting the records office, might they kindly check whether these are in fact Ken's diaries, and perhaps whether they contain any personal information? He would have been living in Samuel road, Ipswich about that date.  Many thanks for any help or info.

Suffolk / Re: Mary WHITMORE, Ipswich Mayor

Thanks, I know I had read something similar in her obituary in the Evening Star in 1974 - "Mrs Whitmore, who was a widow, had lived for the past two or three years at Belchamp Otten Rectory, near Sudbury, the home of her son-in-law and daughter, the Rev. and Mrs R. Trevor Howard."

I know that Mary lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Essex (Belchamp Otten?) in the last years of her life; maybe the grandchildren live in that area? Not sure if the family moved back to Suffolk.

I'm glad to see Mary being recognised in this way; not sure that I'd be able to make it to the unveiling (from Glasgow), but hope it all goes well. Very proud of Mary, my grandmother's cousin.

Ayrshire / Re: Barclay/Peebles, Kilbirnie

I have a feeling this James may be from another branch of the family; my direct ancestor (James) left Kilbirnie around 1850, moving firstly to Lochwinnoch and later to Glasgow. There were quite a number of Barclays in Kilbirnie.

(The Rootsweb post that Sandra linked to above was made by me a good many years back.)

My Hay family weren't from Ayrshire, but from Perthshire, and the link is by marriage.

Sorry, I only just picked up this message. Do you have a scan of the Kilbirnie Gospel hall elders photo that you could post on here? Sounds interesting.

Thanks Kay and Carole; the Colchester one is a possibility as a branch of the family did go to Colchester.

Suffolk / BOYNES-ISAACSON marriage Ipswich
« on: Sunday 22 November 15 16:45 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for any info on Robert E. BOYNES, who married Elsie ISAACSON in in Ipswich in 1945. My Boynes family hailed from Ipswich, and I think it likely there is some connection; would love to find out more. Thanks for any help.
