Hi sorry for not replying to the posts, I haven't been on here in ages. Thanks Aghadowey for the info, that all seems to add up. I have been in touch with STerence now, and thank him for all the info he has given.

i think he did move into Belfast to work, I have a feeling that they came from Bangor.  Thanks for that.  I have his wedding certificate, is there any way I can use this to find out where he was born? I know that he worked on the Malone Road in a house that now belongs to  Queens, Malone House. I suppose that Queens may have the history of Malone House somewhere?

ok thank you.

I don't know the church, but if he got married in the presbyterian is it likely that he was born presbyterian or would that be the girls church?  Sorry to be a pain, this is the first real research I have had to do, most of the rest of it has come very easily.

i have just discovered that James Croft married Susan Millar on 13th July 1835, in Malone Presbyterian Church.  He was a coachman for a linen factory owner living on malone road.  I have his fathers name from the marriage cert, how can i find out James' mother's name?

oh thank you, yes some of my crofts were from the shankill so that ties in, I will have to get up there and have a look.  I have had a look at the ulster covenant site, Roland is my grandfather and Susan is my ggrandmother, James my ggrandfather and Jean and Thomas are a guncle and gaunt.  My dad told me about this and asked me to print out his fathers signature, when I took it to him he almost cried, I thought it a little daft until my dad died and I found his signature at the back of his halifax book, now I know why he almost cried.
