Hi MarieC,

Have you identified who "his COX uncles" were and where they lived? This might at least get you into the right area of Australia as a starting point to refine your search.

Have you looked at the Library Catalogue of The Society of Australian Genealogists which is now online at  www.sag.org.au ? There are a number of publications which might be worth you looking at.  They do provide a research service for those who can't attend in person.

There were CAMERONs in Broken Hill which is not far from South Australian border.

What was his occupation?

Hi Prue,

I'm sure your visit to SAG - at their new location Level 2, 379 Kent St - would be most beneficial to you :D

As would land records which are a gold mine of information ;)

I ALWAYS verify what others give me as it's so easy for mistakes to happen and at least then I know what I have is correct and the errors are not perpetuated.

Hi SandraC,

Have a look at www.whitepages.com.au where there are 17 Threlfall's listed in Western Australia. Good chance they are related.

It's also worth looking at the Perth DPS (Dead Person's Society) webiste at http://www.perthdps.com/

The Electoral Rolls might also help but thay are nor online. You would need to find someone to look them up for you.

Hope this helps

Hi Prue,

A Death Certificate for either Henry or Isabella will tell you how many years in the Colony which will narrow down your search.

Try www.bdm.nsw.gov.au
or a transcription agent is a cheaper alternative
www.transcriptions.com.au

I also suggest you contact the Society of Australian Genealogists at www.sag.org.au where they hold a publication
250 years of Swan family history :) / by Shirley Rae Coote. Includes an index. Privately published 1985. Your answer will most likely be  in there.

I might be in there soon, so let me know if I can help.

Good luck
Helen

Hi Dorothy,

An Australian Death Certificate will tell you how many years they had been in the Colony. That can help to narrow down the search.

A transcription can be obtained from www.transcriptions.com.au which is cheaper alternative to the Registry www.bdm.nsw.gov.au

You could also try NSW State Records www.records.nsw.gov.au

Do you know if they stayed in Australia or returned to their homeland?

Hope this helps

Australia / Re: Concorde New South Wales Australia
« on: Saturday 10 March 07 11:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Sue,

Concord - no e - is a suburb to the west of the City of Sydney on the southern side of the Parramatta River and is next door to the site of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Concord was proclaimed as a municipality on 11th August, 1883 so it would have been well established by that stage

The Concord Heritage Society has a web site at
http://www.concordheritage.asn.au/

The suburb of Concord now comes under the Local Government area of Canada Bay.
http://www.canadabay.nsw.gov.au

Go to the Library, then Local Studies where you will find an email link to the Local Studies Librarian.

The aerial photo on the website shows the suburb of Concord in the top middle of the photo between the two waterways.

I live in Sydney and am happy to help if you have any further questions.

Best wishes
Helen

Hi Alison,
The NSW BDM Registry www.bdm.nsw.gov.au lists a birth for Caroline WOODBRIDGE in 1860 Registered at Gundagai No. 7510/1860
Father: Robert W
Mother: Emma E

You can order the certificate on line from the Registry or a cheaper option is to use a transcription agent www.transcriptions.com.au where it will only cost $A15 or you can get certain parts checked first & upgrade if correct.

Good luck  ;)

Hi borninkent,

There is a David COULTER listed on the Ryerson Index at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswsdps/dpsindex.htm

Make sure you read the page on Requesting a Lookup as they have a very set process in place with a large team of volunteers involved

Another source to check would be the Australian Federal Electoral Rolls which are available at most big libraries in Australia and Electoral Office branches around the country. Unfortunately the Australian Electoral Rolls are not as easily accessable as the English ones. It will be some time before I'm at a library to check them for you. Maybe someone else can check these for you

It would also be worth checking the Australian White Pages online at www.whitepages.com.au where there are some COULTERs listed in Queensland. You could write to them.

I hope this has been of some assistance for you.

Helen
