I'd not thought of that but it would certainly be a good idea!

I think that most useful aspect of these features (apart from the much wished-for and still not happening chromosome browser) is seeing what relationship a shared match has with other matches you both have in common. It's one of the two features I most like about MyHeritage (the other being the chromosome browser of course!)

Unfortunately, I have relatively few matches on other sites than Ancestry so the whole DNA hunt experience is proving more than a little frustrating  ;D

Thank you

I'm sorry I can't help. Mick but I thought I would say that I have an extremely similar situation except that the person concerned only has herself on the tree and I am fairly sure she died a number of years back.

We have 391 cm in common and since I can only find her on Ancestry, DNA painter isn't much use to me as I can't, as far as I know, download her matched results.

If any genius comes up with a solution or hint for either of us, I shall be exceedingly chuffed :D

Having now worked it out and had a plausible guess, perhaps you could delete this topic Shaun? Thank you.

Why not add it as an attachment in the normal way?

Besically because this is my first time posting on RootsChat for very many years and I not only couldn't remember how to do it, I couldn't find the button or anything  ::) . Am editing my post.. should get better soon.

I'm probably being somewhat stupid about this but I can't work out what the section after "twenty one years" is meant to say. I've been guessing but can't come up with anything plausible.

If anyone can help, I'd be really grateful.

You can simply go in on the ethnicity page and edit parent 1 & parent 2 to read Mother & Father (if you know which is which) and then your matches will identify Mother's side or Father's side.

Pheno

That is what I did just now, so my matches now appear as Mother, Father or unassigned whereas before they only had mother or father if I had put that manually.

There are two things that puzzle me about this in particular -

One is that, if they are putting Parent 1 and Parent 2 (or whatever) against matches, even brand new ones without trees, how come some of the matches are unassigned?

The second is that, where there are shared matches, there are several occasions where all but one of the matches show one parent's side and the remaining one shows the other parent's side. I now have a pretty extensive tree and can find no incidence of someone from my father's family having a child with (or even being acquainted with) someone from my mother's family. I realise it is quite possible that this has happened since I am not omniscient but is there any other explanation anyone knows of?

EDIT: I've just realised that this has been extensively discussed on another thread so I do apologise for repeating it.

Yes indeed histbak, that has happened to me several times. Eventually, (and in some cases it has been more than a month later) I do get the email and at that point the will is available. I have also sent emails to IronMountain and rarely get a reply so have given up on that front!

It has certainly put me off ordering wills though as I was on a roll with ordering just before the site went off-line and the very long delays (still haven't received one I ordered several months back) mean that I have lost the thread of my researches once they finally appear...
