A free advanced search of the 1921 census has a highly probable family in Berwick

We aren't allowed to do look ups, so if you don't have a sub to FindMyPast, then you can still register, search and purchase the images
or your local library may have on site access on their pcs

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Birth Register R1

I don't know the specifics of the registration being discussed, but out of curiosity I did an advanced search for civil births on FindMyPast, left all the fields blank and in the 'optional keyword' field entered R1

That brought up 96 results date range 1999-2007,location was either North Yorkshire or Lancashire

Choosing a name at random,I looked at the transcript which says the District was Lancashire, quarter and reg month were both 1  the references  do not match either the one on the GRO site or  lancs BMD site

Repeated the search using just the name and year (no keyword) and I get two entries:

the above in Q1 2006 with a ref I can't match with official sources

and 1 in Q3 2006 , reg month 7 which quotes a district of Bolton, county Lancashire which I can match with the official sources

Looking at the entire page I agree it says Controlled Refuse Tipman
compare the T with other instances e.g. Slater & Tiler and Tailor Factory Man further down the page

There is a 14th file Soldiers of Inverclyde – Military Entries 1914-1918. It is in exactly the same format indicating it is part of the series but it is not on the Watt site it is at
https://www.cookstownwardead.co.uk/pdfs/04030.pdf

Thank you, now downloaded and saved with the others

I dont know if this helps as I have not been doing much research at moment but when using safari search on my phone  I search
Inverclyde intimations initial of surname you are searching for example G as in (Given) and I am able to find the relevant pages with all names beginning with G
hope it helps
Elaine

Thank you

and in addition to that:

Following Elaine's advice I did a series of searches using
inverclyde intimations surnames
then added in turn (using a space between surnames and the letter)
A
B
C
D
E-F
G
H-K
L
M-1
M-2
N-R
S-T
U-Z

which each brought up a link for the relevant file, clicked the link and the file downloaded to my computer

I now have 13  .pdf files, which total 121.4 Mb saved on my computer.
So although the main site no longer gives access, the files are still currently downloadable.
How long they will remain on the server is anyones guess, but whenever I come across anything like this which is freely downloadable I do so and save it if I can, as so many specialist projects like this do disappear in time.

I can't see any indication that these problems have been reported to the people who can resolve them, so I have reported it to the moderator who will, in turn pass it to an Admin.
As its the weekend I am not expecting a quick resolution.

I can't say for definite that is what happened, its just the only logical conclusion I can come to :-)

I too have older announcements in Newcastle papers in lists that say things like In this Town, at Wooler etc etc. and they 'definitely' didn't pay to have them printed, as church mice were well off in comparison to some of them :-)

Sorry for the delay, I looked at a selection of editions in 1845-1850 but couldn't see anything like the charges info I posted for 1869.

I also looked at the BMD notices in the Journal on 15 Feb 1845. I think these may well have been local interest news . The info possibly came from a representative of a local paper speaking to vicars in their area to find out who had been married/ buried the previous week and if anyone prominent had a new addition to the family? Perhaps then copied by the papers in the nearest large city?

These earlier death notices e.g. are not like the later ones where relatives paid for the notice and included funeral details etc,  they really just say who'd died where and when, so on balance I'd think they were 'local area news' items even in the Journal rather than being placed by relatives either for free or by paying. That sort of info being published may have helped to boost circulation ?
