Thanks, Max

Unfortunately it was not the name I was hoping for.  My chap may have been in America by then.

Yes, I have just come across this and it would be great if the names could be printed out, as they are a bit hard to read otherwise.

Thanks for that.  Bestland does not seem to be a very common name anywhere!  They mainly seem to show up in Dorset or London.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Death of "Mr" Bestland
« on: Saturday 16 April 11 14:36 BST (UK)  »
The newspaper archives report the death of "Mr Bestland",  in the Sat 23rd Dec 1837 issue of Leicestershire newspapers.  He is described as being of Brentingby, and of advanced years.

If anyone happens to have access to the appropriate death records I am interested to know what his christian name was, or any other particulars.

Many thanks.

Thanks, Catey.  It was the same one I saw, but it doesn't matter.  It certainly makes interesting reading.

Thanks heaps, Mike.  Actually, I am surprised they didn't get a worse sentence.  I am not sure I like to have this fellow in my family tree.  I don't think I would have liked to have met him on a dark night!  Perhaps he is lucky that transportation had ended by this time.

The records office got back to me and it added up to a bit in the end, by the time they had a ten pound research fee, cost of copies, airmail postage, credit card fee etc.  If you are able to still do the lookup Mike, I would really appreciate it.  I will send a personal message with the details.
Thanks

Thats good to know, Annie.  You hear stories at times of things costing an arm and a leg.

Hi Mike
I have emailed so will see what they say.  The event occurred in 1877 so the hundred years are well and truly up.
