Fife / Re: Grants in Cupar/Ceres

Yes both William and Elizabeth died in/around London.  I haven't been able to trace John and Margaret after the children were born so not sure if they stayed in South Africa or more likely came back to the UK.  On William's marriage certificate in 1871 it states his father is a Valet and would appear he was still alive (other certs I have have [deceased] included where relevant).  I will go and have another look on Scotland's People but I fear I'm searching for a needle in a haystack unless I get a break!  Really grateful for all your help though  :)

Ev, Unfortunately not - I just have her listed on the overseas military birth certificates for the children as "Margaret" - no maiden name which of course is not very helpful !

Fife / Grants in Cupar/Ceres

Hi, any help/advice grateful received in my search for my great, great grandfather who is shown on his military records as being born in Cupar, Fife in about 1814.  I have come across another record for a John Grant b.1815 in Ceres, Fife which is obviously very close to Cupar.  My John was married to Margaret with children William and Elizabeth and served in South Africa during the 1840s.  Have traced his children but nothing further on John and Margaret.

Many thanks, Samantha

Many thanks for this Sandra.  I'm in touch with most of the other tree holders but nobody who is as close a relative.  The search goes on for the rest of the siblings details - Lilian Rose (Ethel May's younger sister) who also went to America.  I have traced her around Seattle and then LA but haven't been lucky so far with her final(?) marriage and subsequent death in the 1980s.  Thanks again, Samantha

A few updates on this search.  Looking for any descendants of the Worsley brothers: Clarence (Charles) who married at least 3 times (Las Vegas and twice in California); Harold who married Mille (as per death cert) and Digby.  Also death record for Ethel May Worsley (who married Fred Brender) who died in Los Angeles in the 1960s.  Thanks!

Thanks Shelly - I'll give it a try.  Raising international money orders is quite expensive here.  Alternatively I might wait until I am in the US in September but thanks again for the info.

I too have been having problems getting copies of marriage/death certificates for relatives who moved to the USA - Washington State and California.  I tried to order them through Ancestry.com but the form asks you to specify your US state, if you leave that blank you can put in the UK at a later point but it would still not let me order them.

Could anybody suggest any help particularly for Californian records?

Many thanks
Samantha

Thanks to your help, I have now found that May Worsley married Fred L Brender in Leavenworth, Washington in 1913 and they had a son, Clarence Leonard Worsley Brender in 1914.  May and Clarence are shown on the 1930 US census in Los Angeles.

Thank you to aghadowey, Valerie and Shellyesq for the quick responses.  The 1930 census definitely shows the right family and gives me a great place to start from.  I am sure the information on Digby is the right person and is the information for Harold.  Hopefully I can track down some more info.

Thanks again!
