Devon Lookup Requests / Re: Ellen Gloyen b.1837 marriage or death Exeter
« on: Wednesday 08 November 23 21:28 GMT (UK)  »
She married in 1857 to a Jacob TANNER. The marriage certificate shows her father's name to be Joseph ( a painter) and her name was recorded as Helen Frances GLOYEN. Louisa & Joseph GLOYEN were witnesses. Marriage took place at Holy Trinity, Exeter. In 1851, Mary J & Helen GLOYEN are indexed as GLOYER, living with their aunt Rebecca SANDERS.
Helen Frances GLOYEN and sister Louisa weren't baptised until 1851 at St Mary Arches.

I've just looked at the Brixham St Mary baptismal register (rather than the BTs from Family Search)  which reads:
Anne Daugr. of Thomas & Martha TOLSOR (not TOLSON) of the 62 Regt, was bap 19 June 1808.

Devon Lookup Requests / Re: March family East Portlemouth
« on: Tuesday 20 December 22 14:26 GMT (UK)  »
John MARCH married Mary STONE in Kingsbridge in 1782. John (clearly) signed the register, Mary made her mark. Both described as sojourners and the marriage was following banns.
A John MARCH married Mary TUCKER at East Portlemouth in 1788, also following banns. No mention of John being a widower, and, he did not sign his name - made a mark. Again both parties described as sojourners. It would appear to imply that there are 2 different John MARCH grooms.
A John MARCH of the parish of Portlemouth was buried at South Pool in 1835 aged 81.
A Mary MARCH was buried at South Pool in 1832, also 81 -possibly the TUCKER wife of the above.
