Yes that's it, not sure if there was any other places she may have been abandoned but this one seems the most likely

Surrey / Queens institution

Edith May Whiting b1909 Croydon was left at an institution in Croydon. Believed to have suffered from polio.
She was abandoned in c1912. Has anyone access to the admissions records for Queens as it appears to be the most likely place.
All help appreciated

Checked the number again on Find my past (hate that new search engine) and found the guy you referred to, it was in 1926, did the army reuse numbers or as suspected the number is incorrect.

Checked the Graves site, he isn't mentioned anywhere as a casualty. The MOD said it was a Royal Artillery number although he was in the Royal Army Service Corp. All this assumes the information on the certificate wasn't a pack of lies and there was some substance to it.

World War Two / Army Service records by serial number

Looking at a case involving a friends father, mother passed away without giving any info at all regarding his biological father who according to his birth cert had died before he was born in 1946, on his birth certificate it gives name and army number (1068275), however on contacting military and MOD they state that the number does not match the name so will not hand over any information.
Question: is there any where to find a name just by having the serial number, it appears his mother was covering something up and he is desperate to find out more. To make matters worse his mother claims to have been married to him but there is no record of a marriage.

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Re: Phyllis May Hayes ?

Unknowns, it was at the register office so they could have been dragged in of the street. I did check them out on the 1911 census but there appears to be no kinship to them, possibly acqaintances but that is at best.
Regarding variations on names, I have tried all the ones that you might think of but still nothing pops up. Even tried just putting Phyllis in FreeBMDs and still no joy.

Thanks for that Harry, i had seen that but it looks as if she married again in 1937 to an Arthur Hunt, if so death was probably in Wantage 1939.
What also is quite astonishing is that she married Frederick in 1918, in 1924 she had a son but on the birth certificate there is no mention of the father. Frederick died in 1929 so he was very much alive when she gave birth.

A gem of a mystery
