United States of America / Re: Trying to find anything on a Jane Maltman
« on: Friday 14 August 15 06:21 BST (UK)  »
Betty, since yesterday I have done a little more searching and discovered that Jane Maltman had more brothers and sisters than I thought. Tragically many died as children and young adults in a short space of time. I am descended from one of the sons who made it to adulthood, Jane's brother James, who married and had children, one of whom is Margaret, my paternal G Grandmother, whom I remember very well.

This MI gives details of the deaths including Jane's

Hi Betty

Jane Maltman (b.circa 1872 Balmaighie) was my Great Grandmother's aunt. She was one of 7 (that I know of) children born to James Maltman (b.circa 1851 Tongland) and Agnes Monaghan (b.circa 1848 Kelton)

I have Jane's mother Agnes with a sister named Grace but no other information on the Monaghan line as I was following the Maltman line.

My Great Grandmother, Margaret (b.1899 Borgue) was a Maltman directly descended from Alexander Maltman and Jane Bennet. Many of the names mentioned here are in my records. I will happily share the details I have so far if it would be useful.

Hi ev
Thanks so much for that. That's been so helpful. Strangely the death registered right before Jane's on that page is also one of my ancestors.
I've only been looking since Christmas and in my excitement and finding all the births and marriages, I forgot that they died too!
Thanks again.

Kirkcudbrightshire / Jane Adamson, reference to Kerr and McNae

Hello everyone

I have encountered a problem with Jane Adamson born c: 1816 married to Samuel McNae born c:1813
They are named as parents on their childrens marriage certs but I just cannot find marriage details for themselves, nor have I had any success with birth details of Jane.

They had 8 children that I have found with all births registered at Carsphairn between 1841 and 1860

A member of another site, with whom I share a tree has Jane's parents named as James Adamson and Jean Kerr. (He did mention that he was elderly and not in good health...and emails have gone unanswered, so I am not able to ask him for his source of information)

I can find a marriage for a James Adamson and a Jean Ker in Torthowald, Dumfries, however.. when I searched on Scotland's People Site for possible children of James Adamson and Jean Ker/Kerr, there were lots of children born but some to James Adamson/Jean Kerr and some to James Adamson/Jean Ker. Given the birth districts, it does appear that these were two separate familes.

So far as I can see, neither of these couples had a Jane and I am at a loss for where to search next.

I have found family as far back as 1750 and always around Carsphairn, Tongland, Kelton, Twynholm, Crossmichael, Buittle etc. right down to my own father born in 1938, so Torthowald popping up has kind of thrown me.

I have a feeeling that I am maybe looking too hard and cannot see the wood for the trees at this time!  ???

Hi
I am also searching the Milligan branch of my tree at the moment and so far I'm back to James Milligan c:1827 married to Mary (surname indecipherable but possibly Gordon) he was Father to my GG Grandmother Margaret, born in Buittle 1856.
The entire family, so far, are all Kirkcudbrightshire, so maybe we have a link.
