As part of Staffordshire Libraries' History Month, Wombourne History Group are holding a local history exhibition on 29 October 2022 in the Community Room, Wombourne Community Centre.

The exhibition will feature maps, photographs and other documents relating to Wombourne's past:  members of the History Group will be on hand all day to answer visitors' questions.

The exhibition will be open from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm:  entrance is free.

Ah, I was on Ancestry Pro (one of the online resources kindly provided by my local library).

Well, as the Significant Other was identified as high-risk at the start, we'll still be keeping ourselves very much to ourselves.

At the moment I'm trying to work out if and when our Local History Group can meet again - most of our members are elderly, and the room we normally use isn't very big, so one metre distancing may prove a problem.

I'm very much looking forward to buying a decent pair of shoes, as my favourite pair have collapsed: and a pint in a riverside pub.

Things that I hope won't change:  during lockdown I managed to persuade the afore-mentioned Local History Group to start a monthly newsletter (I've been pushing for this for two years!) and I'm hoping we can continue with this once we're back to normal.

I've searched the births at Northwich workhouse but there's no record of a Martha Ann Harding, and as she was fostered I'm not sure if this was her birth name, or one given to her by her adoptive parents. Will have to check the account records to see if there's mention of her parents there.

I'm guessing it would be common for a couple to name an adoptive baby, as it looks like she was only about a year old when baptised - it's also complicated by having 2 different dates of birth. Her gravestone gives her birthday as 17th April 1881, but throughout her life she gave it as 9th October 1882. According to older family members she never mentioned being adopted, so I'm not sure if she even knew.

I wonder whether 9 October 1882 was when she was adopted? It may be that her foster/adoptive parents regarded the date when she became a member of their family as her "birthday".
