Australia / Re: STILLING Family
« on: Tuesday 26 August 14 07:03 BST (UK)  »
He was Thomas William Stilling, not Samuel.
His daughter Isabella married Rev Hugh Livingstone - I am in touch with another descendant of Isabella.
Thomas Stilling's daughter Ellen  Elizabeth (Nelly) married Samuel Reichenbach in Noumea, from whom my husband is descended.
I have a photo of Samuel's headstone in a Noumea cemetery.  It is not a very clear photo.

Canada / Re: Robert Mackie Jamaica, Forres,Toronto
« on: Saturday 15 February 14 07:15 GMT (UK)  »
Thankyou Jacquie in Canada and rosie17
There appears to be two named Robert Roy Mackie!
Their fathers had the same names - William Mackie.
The mothers' names differed - his mother (in my search) was Ann Baker Herron I believe.
The middle name ROY in my search is from a family surname.  A family member, Elspet ROY, stated that Robert went to America.  He was born 1808 in Jamaica, later lived in Forres Scotland for a whil, before going to America/Canada.

The "other' Robert Roy Mackie was born in 1813 in Scotland, same father, mother was Helen Darlington.
So...which one married Angelina Gilbert of Darlington in Toronto, I wonder.
I am missing a clue somewhere!

Thankyou Rosie17 for your prompt reply to my query.  Much appreciated.
Although I know Robert Mackie's father's name (William Mackie), I didn't include his mother's name, which I think was Ann Baker Herron, as I thought it could be inaccurate.  It is possible that his parents didn't marry, in Jamaica.  Therefore I am trying to explore any possibilities about his identity and his family in North America.

Canada / Robert Mackie Jamaica, Forres,Toronto
« on: Friday 07 February 14 09:37 GMT (UK)  »
Robert (Roy) Mackie was born in Jamaica 1808, went to Forres Scotland, home of his father William Mackie.  Family document tells that he went to Canada.
It is thought that he married Angeline Gilbert in Toronto in 1838.
I have no further information about Robert.
Is someone able to look up this marriage record please?  It may confirm the names of his parents?

Europe / Belgium-Waldron/Reichenbach
« on: Thursday 05 December 13 08:56 GMT (UK)  »
Elizabeth King Waldron/Reichenbach born 1892 Sydney Australia.
Married Hermann Reichenbach 1914 Nairobi.
Their daughter Elizabeth King Reichenbach born 1915 Nairobi, British East Africa.
Elizabeth and her daughter last heard of in Ostend Belgium 1950.
I am searching for any records that may help me discover where they lived after 1950, or if/when they married or died.

Antrim / Re: James Burn/s 1801 Antrim
« on: Monday 13 May 13 03:26 BST (UK)  »
Jean, we now know that James Burns was baptised 13 Aug 1762 at Shankill St Anne's Belfast.
His parents - James Burns and Mary Carr.  Secondly, he was baptised 19 Aug 1762 St Anne's Civil, Belfast.
Are there any siblings recorded for James Burns at St Anne's ?

He was convicted in 1801 at Antrim for rebel activities.   A trial has not been found.  Any ideas where to search for a trial would be appreciated.

Australia / Re: How was a stillbirth registered 1936?
« on: Sunday 06 May 12 12:12 BST (UK)  »
My mother's first baby girl was stillborn  c1930, in Sydney.   It wasn't registered - she told me about it.  Her second baby boy lived just one day, born 1933.  His birth was registered, and he was named and a small brown burial card was found in her belongings after she died.
I was her third child and I survived!  When I was giving her details for registration after her death, I was told that stillborn babies were not recorded on the mother's death registration, but the day-old baby was.  Fortunately, because of what my mother told me, I was able to include the still born daughter on my data base.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Dinah or Diana TAPPER
« on: Friday 30 March 12 04:16 BST (UK)  »
Many thanks to jorose and Lucy2 for all the interesting snippets of research, adding to what others have contributed as well.
About 10 years ago, I corresponded with a man in Sydney who is descended from Lady Charlotte Stratford.  (I haven't been able to make contact with him recently) She was his g.g. grandmother.   From Lady Charlotte, to her daughter Florence May Georgina Stilling/ marr. Kilmister, to their daughter Dorothy Olivia Stratford Kilmister. .
He said Charlotte  was born in Leghorn Italy c 1845.  He placed her death at c1875 London?  (note the ?)
The information that jorose sent was interesting, regarding a problem that caused the children to scatter.   Victorian shipping index lists:
Henry Stratford, age 18 and Edward Stratford age 21, per "Rip Van Winkle", arr. Nov 1852, Port B.
Also: Peter Stratford age 19, & Henry Stratford age18, per "Sea Nymph" Port B

Interesting that second wife Diane Tapper was a miliner and third "wife" Charlotte Stratford was a dressmaker.  Since Thomas Stilling was a draper,
maybe they supplied goods to his shop(s) and that is how he met them.

Many thanks to Beg, Ian C, Lu ,  Minnehaha and Lucy 2 for your great  responses to my query.  (I hope I didn't miss someone!)  Much appreciated!
I need to ponder on all the information you have sent me.

Also, Diane Tapper is not the only NZ puzzle regarding the wives of Thomas William Stilling.  At least, I have been shown that he actually married Diane. Thankyou!
He fathered another child in NZ with Lady(?) Charlotte Florence STRATFORD!  Again no record of a marriage can I find, just the birth of the child 1 May 1871 called Florence May Georgina Stilling/Stratford, #1871/9737.
The "story" is that Charlotte went back to England to visit her mother and died there, leaving infant Florence May in NZ with a "cousin".
I have parents' names for Lady Charlotte:  Earl Mason Gerard Stratford (1784-1849) and Countess Mary Arundel (1810-1875).
I know that daughter Florence May Georgina  married Ernest Henry Kilmister, 1907 NZ #1907/5225.
Thomas Stilling:  Well, he sailed on to Noumea, then to Sydney.  That's another part of the "story".
