Hi Steve,

Francis didn't leave many, if any, details of his life in Australia.  I was quite surprised to find that he had other brothers in Australia.  My Aunt, Francis' granddaughter, didn't have much detail of his life either.  Unfortunately I was too young to quiz my grandmother re her father before she died.  I do have marriage and death certificates for Francis but they're not full of info.  I have a photo of all the Smiths.  Do you have any photos?
Cheers

Hi Steve,
I'm the contact that Mary has in Australia.  Do you know anything more about Peter?  Who he married?  When William was killed in 1914 there was a Florence Smith who was a witness/informant.  Could she have been Peter's wife?  I am in Canberra.  Are you in Oz?  My email address is Removed , see reply # 6.

Look forward to more contact.  Cheers

Sharyn

I am researching my partner, Cath Smith. She is a descendant of Peter, Francis brother, they both came to Oz and settled in the Bathurst area.  Francis owned a Hotel in Bathurst.

Peter arrived on the Blairgowrie in April 1881, listed as Smyth, born Leitrim, Leitrim abt 1864, parents Peter and Julia and is going to stay with his brother Francis at Macquarie Plains (Bathurst).  On the immigration deposit record from 1880 it says he is residing at Drumcoura, Ballinamore, Leitrim.

So far I have been unable to find a birth record for any of the children of Peter and Julia before the three recorded after civil registration commenced.  Nor can I find an immigration record for Francis.

Any further info gratefully received ;)

Steve

No, i have only her death certificate which doesn't tell me anything - parents:  unknown.  I got more info from her brother's death certificate which gave the names of the parents as William Kelly and Bridget Tennery.

Thanks you for your reply aghadowey.  I do not have exact dates of birth.  I think James Kelly may have been born around 1837 with Mary born around 1836.  James died 22 November 1909 in Bathurst New South Wales and Mary died on 27th March 1903 in Parramatta New South Wales in a hospital for the insane.  0n her brother Patrick's death certificate it states that he was born in Kings County.

I'm having a bit of trouble chasing any information up on this topic.  Mary Kelly and her brother Patrick Kelly were the son and daughter of William Kelly and Bridget Tennery(?).  Patrick's death certificate states that he was from Kings County Ireland.  Mary emigrated to Australia and married a James Kelly who came out to Australia in 1857.  James had a brother William who also emigrated to Australia in 1858.  Her brother Patrick was on the same ship as William.  In 1876 Patrick and William had a fight and Patrick was killed.  William faced a murder charge which was downgraded to manslaughter but he died in prison not long after from consumption.  As you see there's a mix of Kellys here.  Can anyone help please?
