Ireland / Re: 1846 Marriage Gorey Co Wexford
« on: Saturday 08 October 22 16:46 BST (UK)  »
I am researching family in Co Wexford and have come across a marriage record dated 1846 with the following comment
'Married in the Registrar's office according to 7 and 8 Victoria C 81 by licence'
I cannot find a church record for this marriage. What does this comment mean.
Do you know what religion(s) the couple were? At this date not all clergymen were authorised to perform legal marriages so a couple might get marred in the registry office but also go through a church ceremony.
Another reason for a registry office marriage is a recent death in the family or any time when I quiet wedding was wanted.
Unfortunately I don't know their religon. I have attached the cert.

Thanks, but pardon my ignorance but what would be the general reasons for there not being a church marriage.

Ireland / Re: Proof of birth
« on: Wednesday 31 August 22 08:41 BST (UK)  »
Thanks, folks.
One was issued in Dublin (Custom House declaration), and he was aged 24 at the time. The other was issued in Ashford, Co Wicklow and he was aged 36.

Ireland / Proof of birth
« on: Tuesday 30 August 22 19:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I have 2 proof of birth declarations for 2 of my ancestors from the 1860s. One seems to have been made 'for the satisfaction of Her Majesty's Customs House authorisation' in 1868. The other one has what looks like a one penny postage stamp with the wording 'Inland Revenue' across which the witness has signed his name. Can anyone tell me why there was a need for a parent to provide proof of their adult son's date of birth.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I would be interested in swapping info with you. Timothy and my grandad, William, were brothers.

Dublin / Occupation Plater
« on: Sunday 14 September 14 12:57 BST (UK)  »
On the Wilson Dublin Directory for 1801 there is an entry for Richard Thomas of Essex St that states his occupation as a plater. Does anyone have any idea what this relates to, thanks.

Dublin / Re: William Farrell/Mary Nolan

Hi taramcdsmall,
On the 1911 census, Mary is age 75, living in Tymon South and widowed. She states that she had been married for 58 years. I'm assuming that meant she was married circa 1853. In the 1901 census she was living with her son 22 year old William. She was widowed at that time, so all I have is William's name from the baptisms and birth cert for my G'Grandfather in 1869 which states he was a labourer from Firhouse. She states she had 11 children !!!
I can find no marriage cert for William and Mary from that time period, either on the civil records or on www.irishgenealogy.ie

Hi, I wonder if there are any descendants of William and Mary Farrell on Rootschat who can help me go back and find their marriage and William's birth date. I'm sure I have Mary's baptism details, 1835 in Rathfarnham, parents Isac and Mary Nowlan.
