Banffshire / william GRANT and his parents
« on: Saturday 12 July 14 04:19 BST (UK)  »
I have Isabella Alexander Grant (Birth 05 Jun 1809 in Marnoch, Banffshire, Death 1870 in Rhynie, Aberdeenshire). Isabella married James Cran (Birth 4 Nov 1807 in  Rhynie and Essie, Aberdeenshire, Death 18 Apr 1870 in Rhynie, Aberdeenshire).

Isabella Alexander Grant is the daughter of William Grant (born abt 1780 presume Marnoch) and Jannet Crookshank (Birth 20 Aug 1786 in  Forgue, Aberdeenshire).

I seek the ancestors of William Grant (born abt 1780 presume Marnoch).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there.  I have an ancestor, Alexander Grant, 23yo, farm servant at Burnside.  Is this the same Burnside.  If so, does anyone have a map or something I can see of the farm?  Cheers, Linda Hutson (Grant) Western Australia

Yes, def take a plan of the cemetery with you when visiting Mortlach - it is huge.  And, if you go in the summer months, watch out for the bees!  I went with no plan and ended up spending nearly all day to find my ancestors all the while ducking and weaving about to avoid the dive bombing bees.

this is my Grant line
I have James Grant 1786-1876 who married Margaret Dunbar 1786-?
who had Donald Grant 1808-1860 who married Margaret Anderson 1806-?
who had Alexander Grant 1838-? who married Barbara Dawson 1841-?
who had Ann Grant/Dawson (child born before married) 1859-? who married John Tough Clark 1857-?
Ann Grant/Dawson was my Great Grandmother
Very interested to find out more about her husband, John Tough Clark.
He is called John Tough Clark because he was illegitimate.  He was born 25 Jan 1857 at Buckstone, Kildrummy, Aberdeenshire.  His mother Rachel Tough (born 1831 in Clatt, Aberdeenshire).
His father John Clark (born about 1832 in Auchendin, Aberdeenshire).
When John Tough Clark was about 3 years old his mother Rachel Tough married Robert Leslie McConachie.
I would like to find out more about John Tough Clark, his father, and the rest of the family.
Any clues?
Thanks, Linda (Western Australia)
