Cork / Re: Cahill - Doneraile Cork

Hi lovely to hear from you.  If you like  could pm you with my email.  Have done some research into Laurence's family and can give you access to what I have.  It is on my tree on Ancestry but not attached because I am not sure what the relationship connection between my Hanly 3xgr grandfather and the Cahill family was.  There are co-incidences which would seem to indicate some kind of family connection but nothing substantial.  Laurence Cahill was killed in a road accident and I think somewhere I found a newspaper report to that effect.

Hi Allan

I have had a look for your Matthews and although I do not think they are the same family as mine, I might have found some baptisms re John and the marriage of John's parents.  In the parish records of Mamhilad are:
Marriage - Thomas Matthews of Mamhilad & Ann Davies of Mamhilad 16 March 1820; both signed with a mark witnesses; John Hughes & ? Davies (x)

Baptisms:
Jane Daughter of Thomas & Annie Mathews Labourer 13 December 1820
William son of Thomas & Anne Mathews, labourer, 17 March 1822
Thomas son of Thomas & Anne Mathews, labourer 11 September 1823
John son of Thomas & Ann Matthews, labourer 23 January 1825

In 1841 there is a census entry for a John Matthews born 1826 within the household of maltster Thomas & Racheal Davies in Llanvrechva, Pontypool - might  be worth a further look as Thomas Davies would be around the right age to be an uncle perhaps.

My Matthews family did not move to Mamhilad from what I can determine until later (1850/60) - Henry Matthews being born and baptised in Usk illigitimate son of Elizabeth Matthews and John Jenkins (this parentage is born out by his marriage certificate) and Sarah Wicks being born and baptised in Panteg.
Sorry not to have been able to help further.

Many thanks for your reply Tewin.  Hopefully, having looked at the subscription details, it seems that for another £12 per 6 months i can get the rest of the world including Ireland on findmypast.uk.  I shall call them to confirm but if this is the case it is definitely the option to take, especially as recently they seem to have included a lot of the newspaper archive site as well.

Thanks for your reply.  I did sign up for FindMyPast Ireland when it first came out and found it very useful but having gleaned all I could at the time did not renew - most of my family is from the UK.  What I am trying to find out is whether the UK collection now being offered on FindMyPast ie are the same as those on FindMyPast uk which I presently subscribe to but am about to have to renew.  If they are the same then I will subscibe to the FindMyPast Ireland for more money but have access to the Irish records as well as the UK records.

Thanks again

I am trying to find out what UK collections are included on the Find My Past Ireland site.  Are they the same as on the FindMyPast UK site or are they restricted to censuses and BMDs only.  I am coming up to a renewal of my UK subscription and if Findmypast.ie has the same collections as on the UK I will subscribe to that site and get Irish records as well.

Hi Neil

There are 137 entries of the name Cave in the register. The earliest entry in the register is the baptism of Jarvis son of Richard Cave 10 January 1558 and the latest is the burial of Rachel Cave 14 January 1888 age 69.  The register starts 1558 and last entries are 1955.  Within those two dates the name Cave comes up fairly consistently on nearly every page.  I couldn't see any particular pattern.

Had a look at the records and could find no reference to "Bamford" at all nor to Annie Nash.  Sorry not to be able to help.
