Thanks for all this info. It's filled in several gaps and will enable my research to go ahead.

Hi Neale,
Yes. Had a look at the chart. Are you confident about all the info on it?

I've realised that there's a load of info on FamilySearch but I couldn't find Alpha Arthur there. It's RootsChat that got me to James BATCHELDER so I can now use that to take the line back further.

May I just say 'Thank You' to the group!

I've been exploring the BATCHELDER line on behalf of a distant cousin. Her line is:
Arthur Albert Noel BATCHELDER (father)
Alpha Arthur BATCHELDER (Grandfather)

and this was as far as I'd got until I happened upon your chat.
So thank you.

I'm assuming that her Gt Grandfather (Arthur Asher BATCHELDER) emigrated from London to Cape Town where he met his wife (Catherine Sarah VAN BLOMMESTEIN)?

I'm comfortable investigating UK ancestors but struggling with SA info so anything more that you can tell me would be much appreciated.

Thanks Robbiesmum,
Well that bit of info about Mary Ann Little's marriage rules her out of my tree!

Oh well, back to the search.

Many thanks for the very prompt reply. I didn't look there as I thought that they only had transcripts.

Dumfriesshire / Gretna Baptisms 1816

Hi,
Has anybody got any suggestions as to how I can get a look at the Baptism records for Gretna (or Graitney) for 1816? I don't mean the transcripts I mean copies of the original records?
I'm specifically looking for the record for Mary Ann LITTLE bap 1 Apr 1816. Her parents were John LITTLE and Jean BIRREL.
Thanks,
Tim

Staffordshire / George Jones (Potter) 1823 - 1893
« on: Thursday 02 February 17 17:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm trying to find a photo of George Jones the famous Staffordshire potter (born 1823 died 1893).
He's my wife's Gt Gt Grandfather.

I've got his ancestors back to his Grandfather (William Jones, born about 1750).

Any other snippets would be useful as well.

Many thanks,
Tim

Somerset / Re: Zion Chapel at South Carey

Thanks
Seen the Victoria County History document and spent many a happy hour scouring the Somerset archives.
I came across the record of Methodist baptisms in the Castle Cary museum. Someone had recently come across it when a relative died. I'm hoping that other non-conformist records are still waiting to be discovered and haven't been destroyed.
