Derry (Londonderry) / Doherty's of Enagh Lough, Londonderry
« on: Tuesday 15 July 14 12:14 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the Doherty's of Enagh Lough, Londonderry.  Sarah Jane McIlmoyle married William Doherty on 26 June 1868 and by 1901 they had 3 children - Matthew, Sarah and Eliza Jane.  Guessing at their ages they would have been born in 1872, 1874 and 1879.  My connection is through Sarah Jane McIlmoyle, my great grandfather's sister.  Her parents were Matthew McIlmoyle and Elizabeth Sarah Moore and came from Dirtagh, Limavady

I am trying to trace the Sherrard Family of Stradreagh, Limavady.  I have an Elizabeth McIlmoyle who married Robert Sherrah on 27 November 1860 and they had 3 children - John, Robert and Elizabeth.  By 1901 census name had changed to Sherrard and John was married to Annie.  Robert didn't seem to marry.  Annie and John had two children - Robert and Elizabeth.  Robert was born around 1906 or 1907 and Elizabeth Huston was born around 1908 or 1909 going by the 1911 census.  My connection is through the McIlmoyle's - Elizabeth would have been my great grandfather's sister.  Any help would be appreciated.

Yes that's a connection to my family date of marriage was 24 July 1901 and they had Louis, Enid, Elvina Maud and Kathleen Elizabeth. John was known as Rev RJ in family and there was a book written about him with reference to his pastoral care for border Leicester sheep A Shepherd of Two Flocks.

I am hoping to obtain a copy of my grandfather's will.  He died within the past 50 years and I wondered how I would apply for this and to where?  Is it possible to obtain details online?

My maiden name is McIlmoyle.  I live near the church you mentioned - Balteagh and there are 2, the Parish or Church or Ireland and the Presbyterian.  Balteagh is approximately 6 miles from Limavady and from my own family research most of the marriages are attributed to the Balteagh Parish/Church of Ireland during early 1800's.  I notice most of your research with ministers was of the Presbyterian connection so perhaps you might have researched the wrong church??

The Rev RJ McIlmoyle mentioned here was my father's cousin and there was a book produced about his famous sheep both animal and in the ministry!  However I think the McIlmoyle's you might refer to came from Ardgarvan, Limavady and are a different connection altogether.

Sorry to not be any more help - your dates are quite early 1800's and it is difficult to go back as far as that because of the destruction of a lot of records.

I have managed to obtain a copy of the marriage certifcate for Stewart Harbinson and Nancy Mullan who were married on 13 November 1876 in Balteagh Church.  Stewart's father was William Harbinson and his profession son of a farmer!  Nancy used a mark to write her name and in the original marriage certificate it is spelled Mullen but then Mullan beside her mark.  The address given for Stewart is Ballycrum and for Nancy Ballinakary.  I am having difficulty in reading the certificate so any help in identifying details would be helpful.  I cannot make out Stewart's profession - it starts He???  Nancy's father was Thomas Mullan a shoemaker.

Now I want to trace who William was and obviously for his wife's name and possibly any siblings - I am still trying to make a connection between another Harbinson family mentioned in previous thread.

Thank you so much - no much wonder I couldn't find Mary as it was under Marty!!

I know that the only way to find out what they died from is by obtaining death certificates but the cost soon adds up - is there a cheaper option??

John Park was born on 14 October 1866 in Balteagh, Londonderry
His parents were William Park and Sophia Love Park
John Park married in the quarter Jan to March 1909 to Mary Jane Harbison
They had a son Stewart Harbinson Park born in the quarter July to September 1909 - he died at the age of 3 and is shown in the 1911 census as 1 1/2 years of age
They had a daughter Sophia who is shown as died in April to June 1917 with an estimated birth year of 1910

I can find no record of Mary Jane and want to find out when she died as I believe John may have married again in 1915 to another Mary (sorry do not know surname)

I also want to find out if John had any more children in the second marriage.

I have been told by relatives that Stewart was burned to death and Sophia was starved to death!!

So am I to assume that Mary Harbison died sometime between 1909 and 1915?  I wonder if it would be possible to find out a year when Mary died?  I am assuming that Sophia was still with her father when she died?  Any possible way of finding out when exactly Stewart Harbison and Sophia Park died and what of except by actually getting hold of the death certificate??
