Good point, and I am happy to think aloud on this. If the names at the front were written first......they did not intend for many names to be recorded?.  It would be good to know who had it before your Nan.

I am not expecting that Nan has a year, but did she see it as a....child?....young adult?......30 years ago?

Do you know when/where/in what circumstances your Nan came by the bible?

If I am considering that the names at the back of the book, and known to your Nan, are written before the names at the front of the book......it would be interesting to know who had the book before it came into your Nan's possession.

Who had it before your Nan?

It looks as though the inscriptions were started on the back inside cover until all the space was accounted for. Inscriptions were continued on the inside front cover, and not intended to name too many people.....space used generously.

When and where was the bible printed?  Does it suggest that it was printed for an organisation eg bible society....or just a general printing?

Do you have a burial place for any of the people named in the bible?

What information on this document -

* I've discovered my grandfather's original birth certificate at the GRO but his birth parents are not the people he knew to be his parents.

 - enables you to see it as the birth record of your grandfather. What information about your grandfather did you use to locate the birth certificate on the GRO

* was your grandfather brought up with siblings?

* Went to Adelaide, Australia in 1880's.

* Buried in Adelaide Sept 1925.

* with a daughter (possibly Jane).

Corrections here for years, ages -  at Michael FINLAY and son  John -

From the inscription headstone -

* husband Michael FINLAY killed Dalry Mill      30 May 1847    52y     (b ~ 1795)

* the above Helen McKENNEN                        20 Jul 1884     77y     (b ~  1807)

* son John                                                     8 Apr 1843     14y    (b ~ 1849)

And this no longer relevant -

If dates are correct, John (son of Helen McKENNEN) born ~ 1849, is not the child of Helen's husband, Michael FINLAY, who died 1847.

Is there a second marriage for Helen?
