Thank you all so much....a real can of worms has been opened up for me.  quite a few unanswered questions now fit into place. Names that didn't fit in and now they do, .... a child  'born out of wedlock'  spirited away, and then the child (my grandmother) 'assuming'  different or similar sounding surnames through her life untill it was time to marry at which point she resumes her 'birthname'  for the official records.  Amazing stuff!  Please can anyone dig deeper?  Cheers.  Sterling

Wow!  thank you all so much for your help.
Radcliff, you asked who Janet married... it was Horace Sterling NEEDHAM, and they lived in Alderley Edge Cheshire.... which leads me on to Mosiefish's question.. the address on Janets birth certificate is... 17 George Street Blackpool.  Your comments about an unofficial adoption seem to fit in so well with unanswered questions.   My mother always spoke of a very close family member 'Granny Sargent'  who I could never work who she was in relation to my family and my mothers middle name is Sargent!!!  This all fits in so well but also creates a bigger mystery for me...  don't think I'll ever solve this one? Thanks again. Sterling.   Please feel free to dig deeper for me...I'd love that .

Wow!!   Thank you so much Carol,  can I be cheeky and ask if you could help me with 'anything' on Annies husband Mackintyre BOSWELL?  Again the only info I have is his date of marriage to Annie at St Edwards in Leek. Address at the time 3 Quarry Low Bank, Mill St, Leek.  ( I do have his death certificate and relevant  info of his life from marriage upto his death).  He was a traveller of Gypsie background,  I'd be so grateful if you could help Carol.  Regards Sterling
