The Common Room / Re: What's Happened to the price of Certificates??
« on: Sunday 18 June 06 08:39 BST (UK)  »
My 'local' LDS site is 16 miles away in Northampton, but they don't have facilities to print from films or fiches.
Also they won't take an order for a film by phone- they need me there in person.
So it often involves one round 32 mile trip to order it and another a few weeks later to view the films.

Carol

Hi Carole

a couple of thoughts re Northampton LDS

1.  why not take some order forms with you and do it by post

2.  alternatively i live quite close so i could pop in and order for you if you want (at the mo i'm there most tuesday evenings (although they are shutting for the hols on 7/7 for a fortnight and i won't be able to get in for at least a month then))

3.  I have been photographing the screens with a digital camera - seems to work quite well.

i wish you had posted this just over 2 weeks ago!  We were in wootton rivers then and walking around the burial ground - the grave stones are in a remarkable state of repair and very easily readable.  if there had been a stone with your ancestor name on it i could have taken a photo for you!!

not sure if we'll be down that way again - if we are i'll keep you in mind.

i am searching for an Isabel Graeme who married a Robert Smith (from household of Sir Charles Lowther).

Where would i start looking for her?

In the 1871 census she is shown as age 39 and born in Scotland

in the 1861 census she is shown as age 29 and born in aberdeenshire chaple of grenock (RG9/824/136/4)

what exactly did this mean?

I have a copy of a certificate for my step fathers great uncle becoming a freeman of the city - he was 20 at the time which seems a bit young to be awarded an honour.

Was it something that happened to all trades when they finished their apprenticeships?
