How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / posting messages
« on: Monday 31 January 05 19:11 GMT (UK)  »
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?

Every time I try to post/reply to a message, I click 'post' and I get a box telling me I have to register/log on to send a message, I did this four times on the last message I sent.  Before trying it the second time I even checked that I was logged on, but still got the same message - not to mention the fact that the message I had taken an age to write had disappeared.

Here's hoping this works!

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / looking for WELCH COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 26 January 05 20:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I think I may have finally lost the plot - this is the fourth request I've posted in as many days.

This time I'm trying to trace my father's family.  I hit a brickwall almost immediately (about 4 years ago) so have been concentrating on other family members.  I thought I would find a way round it by now, but instead I think it's been reinforced, hence my plea for help/guidance.

I know my grand father, CHARLES HENRY WELCH went to South Wales to work and that my grandmother ALICE EMILY TYLER left Camberwell to meet him there and marry.  I have their marriage certificate.  The details are:
December 1st 1907 at St. Mary's Church, Clydadi? Glamorgan.
CHARLES HENRY WELCH 25 Bachelor  labourer  Richmond Villas, Clydadi?
Fathers name WILLIAM WELCH, proff. Lighterman.

I know they were still there in 1908 as my uncle was born in Wales in that year, but as far as I'm aware, the rest of their children were born in London.

I also have my grandfather's death certificate dated 16.10.1952, Dulwich, London.

I cannot find any other trace of Charles or William.  I have checked all internet census sites, 1837 online, freebmd, I have visited the local studies library, nothing.  I am now convinced that Charles arrived in a spaceship, got married and went home again.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / Wootton, Huntingdon
« on: Wednesday 26 January 05 17:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm not sure if I'm posting this on the correct page but wasn't sure which one to use.
I'm trying to find my grandmother's family.

My grandmother - ELLEN COLLYER/COLLIER was born on 21.3.1880 in Camberwell, London.  On her birth certificate her mother is named as MARY WOOTTON.
I have these on 1881 Surrey census where is states Mary Wife b. Huntingdon.  I've tried finding her birth and marriage to HENRY COLLYER but can't find either.

Could someone please point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance

Sandie

Hi,
I am trying to trace my husbands Welsh relatives, but I'm having a bit of a nightmare.  If anyone can help I would be extremely grateful.  This is the info. I have so far for Lewis/Davis:

WILLIAM T. LEWIS b. 13.9.1863, Merthyr. d.9.12.1907. Father Thomas Lewis, Coal Miner.
MARY DAVIS/ DAVIES b. 19.12.1866, Neath d.25.1.1911. Father Thomas Davies, Coal Miner.
These married on 25.12.1886 at Silea Chapel? Merthyr Tydfil.
Children: THOMAS b. 14.10.1887 WILLIAM J. b.28.11.1888
DAVID MORGAN b.25.6.1890 HANNAH b.15.6.1891 IDRIS b. 30.5.1893 JENNET ANN b.13.4.1895 ELIZABETH b.21.6.1896 GOMER b.23.7.1898 MAGDALEN b. 6.10.1900 ELFRYN b.22.1.1903, my husband's father.
At the time of their marriage, Thomas was living at Mountain Road, Cwmaman and Mary was living at Aman Court, Cwmaman.
I have them on 1891 census at 22 Oxford St, Ystradyfodwg.Glam and in 1901 at 6 Wordsworth St, Aberdare, Glam.
I'm having problems finding any earlier information on either of them.
Then there's the other side of my husbands family, Richards and Roberts.  Here's what I have so far:
WILLIAM JOHN RICHARDS b. 8.12.1880 Llanrhidian Higher? d. 9.2.1969 in London, Colliery Timberman. Father David , Plate Layer.
SARAH HANNAH ROBERTS b. 3.6.1881 Father Daniel, Collier.
These married on 14.4.1906 at Noddfa Welsh Baptist Chapel, High St., Ynysybwl.
Children:CERIDWEN b.10.4.1907 WALLACE b.11.1.1909 d.13.9.1941 in Canada GLYNIS b.12.5.1911, my husband's mother, DAVID b. 9.5.1913 ENID b. 11.5.1917 and ARTHUR b. 15.1.1924
At the time of their marriage William lived at 131 Robert St., Ynysybwl and Sarah was living at 102 Robert St., Ynysybwl.
I think I have William on 1881 census at Blue Anchor Terrace and 1891 at 135 Band Row? Llanhidian Higher? with siblings:
Elizabeth, Ann, Thomas,Hannah, Harriet, Margaret and Alice.
I also think I have Sarah on 1891 census at 91 Robert St. Ynysybwl with siblings:
G? David, Mary and Maggie.
Again I can't find anything earlier.
I do know that William was imprisoned during the general strike, but can't find out any details.
As I have already mentioned, any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if I have got any of the Welsh names wrong, us English aren't very good with these.
Sandra.

Completed Census Requests / 1851 Camberwell/Walworth Census - completed
« on: Monday 24 January 05 19:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Could someone please look up my gr.grandfather, Thomas Joseph Dinmore in the 1851 census.  I would really like to know about his parents and/or siblings.

I believe he was born in Walworth in 1837.  He married Maria Camplin on 25/4/1859 in Camberwell.  On the mar.cert. they are both down as living in Neat Street.  Also on mar.cert. his father is named as Joseph Dinmore, Rope maker.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Sandra.
