Hi Kerry, I've just had your site recommended to me and hope you can help. I'm trying to discover more about the death of THOMAS ETCHES who died in 1836 and was buried on the 6th November at St. Philip's Cathedral, Birmingham. He was 35 and a stonemason. If his death was accidental and as he was quite young I'm hoping that there is a coroner's report available.  Many thanks.

I'm trying to discover more about the death of one of my ancestors. His name was Thomas Etches and he was buried at St. Philip's Cathedral, Birmingham on the 6th November 1836. aged 35.  At the time he was living at Lady Well Walk, Birmingham and worked as a stonemason. I don't think that death certificates were issued until after 1836 but as he was a stonemason I'm wondering whether he belonged to a local guild or trade association and whether they would hold details. Can anyone help me please?

If he was still serving in 1920 his records would be with the MOD

His wife died on the 5th November 1918 and on her death certificate Henry is described as "Ex Private London Regiment". So he was probably demobbed or discharged through injury perhaps.

It is possible that it is amongst the large number destroyed in WW2

Thanks Rosie, that would seem to be the likeliest explanation.

Hello, can anyone help me find the WW1 army service record of HENRY SEERS please? I have looked on Ancestry without success. I know that he served as a Private in the 23rd London Regiment. Henry was born on the 7th December 1895 in Chelsea, I believe, but later lived in Garratt Lane, Wandsworth. He was a baker's roundsman. He died in 1973 in Worthing.

Many thanks

Many thanks for your suggestions avm. Elderly people in our family have always maintained that May died as a result of contracting Spanish Flu but there was no mention that she might have got married around this time. Therefore the Henry Seers connection looks very promising and I'll investigate. Once again many thanks for your help.

London and Middlesex / May Nunn - Spanish Flu

I am researching the life of an ancestor, named May Nunn, who was born on the 1st May 1894 in Battersea. According to members of my family she was a victim of the Spanish Flu epidemic which, I believe, was prevalent in 1918. I've been unable to find a death certificate for her though and, considering the fact that she presumably died in the London area around 1918, I'm surprised that no record appears to exist. This has led me to wonder whether any special arrangements were in force to deal with Spanish Flu victims. For example, were they removed from major cities, and/or quarantined?
I'd be grateful if anyone can help me please. I think that her full name might have been Hilda May Nunn.

This is a photo of a father and son taken in the 1960's who made their living selling flowers from a horse and cart. I think that they originally came from Wardley Street or Lydden Grove but later moved to "upmarket" Wilna Road. They kept their horse in a garage adjoining the house. I think that the son had learning difficulties. The family name was BRIGHT. Does anybody know anything about them?

Here is another old photo of Wardley Street. I would guess that it was taken in the 1930's.
