Durham Lookup Requests / North Cemetery Hartlepool - BROWN
« on: Friday 05 August 16 20:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

My great great grandfather Robert BROWN died 5th April 1973 aged 34 years and was buried at North Cemetery, Hartlepool 9th April 1873

Has anyone an index of Monumental Inscriptions for North Cemetery to see if he had a headstone?

His daughter Elizabeth Jane BROWN died 6th September 1871 aged 5 years was also buried at North Cemetery on 8th September 1871

Many thanks

Carole :)

Thank you William for your quick reply!

I have been trying to find out what happened to ANN WATSON nee Elliott, Mrs John Morgan then Mrs Joseph Watson for years.

The information you provided confirms her to be the ANN Watson I've been looking for :) John Elliott Morgan was her son and I had only recently found out he had moved from Bishopwearmouth to Bishop Auckland.

Her story was quite a sad one. Her first husband John Morgan, glazier of Wolsingham committed suicide and she later married my 4x GT grandfather Joseph Watson. He unfortunately took a fancy to their housekeeper my 4 x GT grandmother Sarah Ayton and during the separation case about 1803 various people testified that Joseph had tried to kill his wife! Details of the case have been reported in a book - Cohabitation and Non-Marital Births in England and Wales, 1600-2012

I will check out the wills too.

Thank you again your help is very much appreciated :)

Hi,

I'm looking for JOHN ELLIOTT MORGAN buried 4th JAN 1842 Auckland St Andrew

And ANN WATSON buried 4th JUNE 1836 Auckland St Andrew

If anyone has access to Auckland St Andrew Monumental Inscriptions I would be most grateful if they could check to see if the above are listed.

Many thanks,

I've had a quick look on A** and found Robert and Ann Knaggs in 1861. Did you notice her mother is living with them and is called Ann Rickerby - where does that come from??

Nannawilk

That confused me for a while I thought I had found Ann Adamson's mother! Ann nee Adamson died and Robert remarried Ann Harrington a widow daughter of Thomas Rickaby a mariner so no luck there.

Just been looking for a baptism for Ann Chambers in Houghton le Spring - Ann Chambers bpt 10 Dec 1773 do John Chambers and Catherine Holburn.

When looking at freereg there's a burial for Ann Chambers do Ann Chambers bu  9 Sept 1796 of Houghton also Catherine Chambers bu 31 Oct 1817 of Houghton aged 79 years (b abt 1738). Ann Chambers daughter Ann born and bpt privately 16 May 1796 Billingham would that suggested baby Ann wasn't well at birth and so Ann might have returned to Houghton le Spring as her mother Catherine was still living there?

Thank you so much for all the information Nannawilk!

It will take me a while to take it all in! You have confirmed that Thomas Adamson's wife Elizabeth nee Fairbarn died in 1801 prior to the date of the possible second marriage and that Ann Chambers was a second wife.

Also the entry for Ann daughter of Ann Chambers is very interesting. I had found a baptism for Thomas Adamson 14 June 1770 St Cuthberts, Redmarshall (of Carlton) son of George Adamson and Ann Carter. Thomas Adamson and Ann Chambers had no daughter Ann listed despite it being his mother's and wife's name although I know it's not proof and an Ann might not have made it to baptism.

Thank you the details of witnesses too.
