Technical Help / Scanner Help
« on: Wednesday 06 September 06 18:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

After a major problem with my computer, needing a new mother board & processor, the shop upgraded my system from Windows 98 to XP.

I now find that me scanner wont work. I have run the disc that came with it, but still get the message that there is no driver asking me to reinstall. When I put the disc back in to install the driver I then get a warning that going any further could seriously damage the computer.

Does anyone know the reason?

Thanks

The Common Room / Ages on GRO index
« on: Friday 23 June 06 08:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of the ages given on the GRO index being wrong?

I have been looking for the death of Eliza Crinks from Bristol and found one which looks possible in 12/1888 giving her age at 69 which seemed too young.

I had already found the burial at Greenbank Cemetery Bristol of her husband Richard in 1876, and their daughter Eliza Jones formerly Crinks in 1878. They were both buried in the same plot & the cemetery office tell me there are 5 persons in the plot. They have a 5 week turnaround & fee to give the other details. I looked through the cemetey records yesterday at the record office for 1888 for Eliza & there was a burial in the same plot as husband & daughter but her age was given as 82.

Sorry this is a bit rambling but is it possible the death I found in the index is the same person but the wrong age quoted?

Any ideas welcome

Gloucestershire Completed Lookup Requests / CRINKS - 1871 challenge - COMPLETED
« on: Monday 27 March 06 13:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Despite paying for a 7 day membership to Ancestry I have been unable to trace my Crinks family in 1871.

I have Frederick Crinks in 1851  ( HO 107/1953 St Barnabas Bristol )and 1861( RG09/1730St James & St Paul Bristol.) with his parents Richard & Eliza & siblings
He was baptised 2/7/1843 in St Philips Bristol.

After his marriage to Louisa ( surname not known, born Wiltshire), I have him in 1881 and 1891( thanks to Arranroots), with their children Emily b1866 & Albert Frederick b 1870. Birth place for the children shows as St Pauls Bristol but I have baptisms for them from family search in All Cannings Wilts. Have also found a GRO ref for the birth of Emily in Bristol 3/1866 vol 6a, page 26.

I have tried all known ways of tracing them in 1871 in Glos or Wilts without success.

I would be very grateful if anyone can find them for me .

Thanks

Hi

I have recently found a baptism for Kate Elizabeth Jones daughter of Eliza ( nee Crinks ) & William Jones on 12/12/1878 in St Barnabas Bristol. Whilst I was aware of lots of their other children , Kate was not mentioned on any census I have of William & Eliza. I initially thought she had died young but the only Kate Elizabeth death I could find pre 1881 census was 13 years old.

In the 1881 census I have found a Kate L Jones aged 2 living with Frederick Crinks and his wife Louisa and their 2 children Emily & Albert ( RG11 2494/5 page 3 ). Eliza had a brother Frederick, and as she is no longer with her husband William & sons in 1881, it looks like her brother may have taken care of Kate. I'm assuming the Kate L is a mistranscription of Kate E.

I would appreciate if some kind person please check the 1891 or 1901 census to see if Kate appears either with or without the Crinks family.

Thanks

Hi

If anyone has access to the parish records for Thornbury or is going to Gloucester record office, I would really apreciate a look up for a baptism of Florence Skuse on 23 March 1890.

I have seen details on the Scribes Alcove on Genuki, giving mothers name as Laura, and in the notes section it says  - afterwards Betty. I know that Laurina Skuse married William Betty in 1887, and was wondering if the actual parish records give any more details. It looks like Florence was born before the wedding.

Have managed a trip to Glos record office myself  :)

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / 1841census - SCUCE
« on: Monday 06 March 06 11:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone please find Isaac Scuce ( Skuse, Skuce, Scuse) in the 1841 census.

I have him in 1851 with wife Elizabeth living in Minty ( Minety?),
both born 1796 in Minty. I also have a possible death for Elizabeth  in 1856, and a possible Isaac in 1861 census with a 2nd wife Harriet. ( transcribed as Sease )

I am also hoping to find their son Thomas, b1820/22, who was living with wife Caroline in Tytherington Glos in 1851. They married Dec 1841 in Compton Greenfield Glos.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
