OK  Thank you.

Thanks everyone.

I am open to all suggestions, and convict William Goodall did definitely come from Tasmania and his eldest children were born there.

I agree that it is odd that there doesn't seem to be a Death record in the VIC BDM, or even a hint of his age.  I too checked Trove and could find nothing.

One other option is the Cemetery record is incorrect, but either way he was interred before Harriet Goodall in 1882, so I have checked for all Goodall's (birth and death) up to 1882 in case it was a cemetery record error, and I still have come blank.

Thanks Judith.

The Electoral Roll, I believe, is the convict William Goodall.  He owned Wanstead Farm outside of Warrnambool.

My current thinking is that the William Goodall (d. 1864) at the cemetery, is a grandchild of the convict William Goodall, probably born and died at Wanstead Farm, out of wedlock, and his parent is one of the convict William Goodall's children, either:
     -  daughter Susan (1837-1878), did not marry and no known children
     -  son John (1842-1923), did marry and known eldest child was born in 1881
     -  son William (1846-1923), did marry and known eldest child was born in 1868
     -  son Henry (1849-1886), did marry and known eldest child was born in 1880.

It would make sense that the first male grandchild born was named after his grandfather, the convict William Goodall.

Hi there.

I know a lot of people know William Goodall (1809-1885) the Tasmanian convict, but the William Goodall I am looking for is not the same person, although he is buried with members of the William Goodall (convict) extended family.

What I know.

1). William Goodall, buried at Warrnambool Cemetery, WES Row25 Grave 3, with a service date of 25/2/1864.
2). He is buried with 2 others:
a).   Harriet Ellen Goodall (1882-1882) - granddaughter of the convict William Goodall
b).   Edwin Goodall (1855-1912) son of the convict William Goodall

*** My Dilemma. I cannot find a corresponding Birth or Death record for William Goodall (d. 1864), and I don’t know how, or where, he fits in with convict William Goodall family.

Assumption 1:  Is he a son of the convict William Goodall?  The convict William Goodall did have a well known son William (1846-1923),  so he probably isn’t another son with the same name.

Assumption 2:  Is he an uncle, nephew, cousin etc of the convict William Goodall?

Assumption 3:  Is he a grandson of the convict William Goodall?  If so, no idea who his mother or father is.

Any assistance would be really appreciated.

Thank you so much for spending your own time and looking up the inquest information at the SRO.

It is really appreciated.  Shame there are no inquest records available for us.   :(
