I had the 17-10-1813 marriage of Elizabeth Shrimpton daughter of Richard, to my 2xGGF Richard Wernham (birth before 1778 untraced after 60 years of searching) but reclassified it as "Doubtful": He married Elizabeth Shrimpton 17-10-1813 (when she was 42) and had 3 more children - the last when she was 48.

The Richard Wernham born 1777 seems to be one of those people selected as the root of many conflicting trees, I have never found any convincing evidence that he is my ancestor as the father of Richard Wernham born 5th January 1809 - but I keep looking. I am not certain of which Sarah Brooker was his mother either, for a long time I thought she was the daughter of Abraham Brooker and Sarah Tidbury, but without any concrete proof and the fact that if it was her she would have married at age 36, still a Brooker and then had 6 children before dying as a result of the 6th one aged 45. And no children or grandchildren named Abraham. Seems a bit unlikely, unless she married a Brooker who died.

Phoebe Haines / Hissey is I believe the daughter of William Hissey and Frances Haines, but I have not found any evidence that got married, it being noted she born outside marriage at her christening 3rd Feb 1811 at Hampstead Norris. I speculate that William was married to and Elizabeth christening 3 boys at Hampstead Norris, between 1779 and 1786.

Good Morning Gazzadogga,
I suspect this Hannah Stevens (nee Budd) was the widow od Richard Stevens who she married in Hampstead Norris 27-5-1765 (Richard Stevens being buried 30-6-1779 at Bisham.
I would be interested to see how you connect the Richard Wernham from 1748 in Thatcham to the one who married Hannah, as I have him as my 5 x Great grandfather through his second wife Sarah Brooker, unfortunately there are so many Richard Wernhams around the area at that time with so few distinguishing data to decide which is which.

Best wishes, peter

Hi cousin,
Your note about Warrington is very interesting as it perhaps adds to an old family story that my Grandfather George Edwin Wernham (1-5-1879 - 8-8-1966),  your great grandad's youngest brother, had walked from Manchester to Cardiff looking for work.
I have your great granddad Richard marrying Martha Ann Millington 28-8-1893 in Warrington with a son Caleb being born the following spring I Warrington. I would be interested in recording your descent from Richard.
My mother was the 2nd daughter of George Edwin and Mary Roberts.
Whilst in Manchester: I have an 'uncle' John Wernham Sykes son of John William Sykes and Dora Flint (daughter of John Flint and Elizabeth Ann Wernham), this EAW was drunken Caleb's younger daughter and she married JF 5-6-1900 in Hulme.
I'd be happy to hear anything you have to add, especially regarding 'drunken' Caleb's ancestry, or try to answer any questions.

Technical Help / Difficulty with the family search website

Is anyone else finding it difficult to activate the family search site. It is letting me put names and birth place and date(s) in, but doesn't give me a search option and won't let me choose marriage of other people. I have tried with Explorer and with Firefox.

Thanks DB, I have tried to search that Family Search source but all it lets me do is enter criteria without ever offering me a 'search' button. It doesn't like my browser so I'll try again at the Library.
