These folks all died, left wills and probates but where were they buried!
John Shiells d.30 Dec 1877 at Black Callerton
Andrew Shiells  d. 24 May 1884 at "
George Shiells d. 01 Jul 1881 at "
Isabella Shiells (Andrews widow and nee Anderson) d. 09 Oct 1901 at Whitley Dairy, Whitley Bay.

I've checked Newburn, Whorlton, Ponteland for church burials
I've checked Cullercoats for a church burial.

But I've not found any of the above peoples burials. I do not have access to civil cemetery records, so this is possibly where they are.

Are you related to these Shiells? Do you know where they are buried?

The Common Room / 1939 register - evacuees?
« on: Monday 08 May 17 01:35 BST (UK)  »
I have a family in Newcastle in 1939 whose children are not listed, the youngest was under 10 so I'm wondering if they had been evacuated?

They have common names so is there anything on the 1939 register which indicates whether the child was an evacuee?

Sussex / Fairly recent Newhaven street or postal directory?
« on: Sunday 30 April 17 08:00 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to a directory (do they even make them anymore?) for Newhaven previous to 1985

I am looking for the occupation of Charles Stewart WATSON who lived in Fort Road, Newhaven for quite a while until his death in 2008. He was 88 when he died so for any occupation I would have thought a directory before 1985.

In answer to a birth query, I've received a long email plus attachment from the Staadsarchiv in Hamburg in German. All their previous emails were in English and German (different person). I don't speak German and Google Translate had a fit!

The attachment seems to be just a list of researchers, the letter seems to be a lot of blah blah blah, then a crucial bit then more blah, blah, blah (official jargon). I'm just guessing.

Could anyone help me with the vital information bit? I don't need a word for word transcription.

Durham / Elvaston Hall, Ryton, Co. Durham - photos online!
« on: Sunday 15 January 17 13:22 GMT (UK)  »
I've just seen a photo of Ryton Rectory online in the Francis Frith Collection. I don't think it is the Rectory, it may be the missing photo of Elvaston Hall. I only have an engraving of Elvaston Hall from Beamish Museum.

Have a look at this photo which is supposed to be Ryton Rectory, what do you think?
