I have just started researching a Matthew & Diana Compton (nee Waight) living in Upavon Wiltshire in 1841 & 1851.

I have their marriage, deaths and census etc !

They had a son called Thomas Compton b 1821 who is with them on the 1841 Census (I have his birth)

This is the family in 1841.

Thomas then joined the army (I have his military records.)

In 1853 he was discharged from the Army in Dublin, Ireland.

So, in 1873 my Great Great Grandmother Hannah Compton married in Dublin and on it she says he father was Thomas Compton, a soldier.

On the 1901 Irish Census she states she was born in Dublin (approx 1853).

So, I'm trying to work out MIGHT this Thomas Compton, above, be one and the same person.

There is NO possible Irish Thomas Compton !

After YEARS of researching, this English Thomas appears to be my only possible line of enquiry.

So, my question is, Is anyone researching this same family and possibly know what happened this Thomas.

Is he MY Thomas ?

I'm grand with Irish Genealogy but this is my first foray onto the English boards so hope you can help.

My Great Great Grandmother was called Hannah Compton and going by the 1901 Census she was born 1855 in Dublin.

Her Roman Catholic marriage in 1873 in St. James' Church Dublin to Christopher Mulready has her address as Old Kilmainham, Dublin / father Thomas Compton ~ his occupation soldier.

She passed away in 1903 but I can't find a burial for her.

So, for years I've had to 'park' her as I could find nothing else for her, her father, any siblings and the usual.

So, recently the NLI here released church records and I checked to see was her marriage on it and lo and behold it was.

On it her Mum's name was on it ~ MARY SCHOLFIELD.

Now I'm really doubting if my Great Great Grandmother was telling the truth about being from Dublin, or if there was just an error on the census (common).

The combination of Compton & Scholfield is not an Irish one and is not showing on any of the usual resources that we use to track family in Ireland.

So, this is where I come to you guys who specialise in English records.

Does this family show up anywhere over there ??

OH and just to add, when Hannah baptised her children her surname is different on most

COMPTON CAMPTON CAMPION COMPION

NLI Baptisms start 1852

YET

I got Batisms for Killanerin back to 1815 off rootsireland.

Again, I'm just noting incase it helps !
