South Africa / Family name - SIMON help needed
« on: Friday 31 July 09 00:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Hoping someone can help me.  Just found out my GGGgrandfather was born in South Africa (french qtr) his name is John Joseph SIMON (sometimes known as Joseph) born abt 1877.

In 1898 he is in Marylebone, London marrying Ellen Mercy Friend and says his father is called Nicholas , a deceased Shoemaker.

All we know is that although born in SA, he considered himself French and spoke in French and ended up working in the Music Hall in London. On the 1901 census he says he's South African ? Coloney and on the 1911 he says he's from South Africa French ? (could be qtr)

I'm trying therefore to trace John Joseph in SA with his dad Nicholas poss births & deaths & poss trying to trace when & how he came over to England.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Kind regards
Sarah

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Croydon - LISNEY bmd
« on: Friday 07 March 08 09:08 GMT (UK)  »
HI, I'm trying to find out a bit more info on my Croydon Rellies. My relative Harriet Lisney was born abt 1824 in Croydon her parents John LISNEY & Fanny BURGESS were married 26 Aug 1822 at St John's Croydon and she herself married Edward COLE at All Saints , Croydon on 27 Dec 1849.

Any help on tracing her baptism & the 2 marriages for further info would be fantastic.

I also know that Fanny LISNEY died 12June 1845 & was living at Barrackfield - perhaps someone would be able to help on a burial for her. I know John died between 1841-1847 and any burial details for him would also be fantastic. the obvious cert on BDM for a John Lisney at this time in Croydon isn't him, so I've got no further in narrowing his death down.

From the census/certs I know that John Lisney was born approx 1796 & Fanny Burgess was abt 1804 - I've not got back any further on these 2 but they come from Croydon, so again any help in tracing baptisms for these as well would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance for any help

Sussex Lookup Requests / LEWES Look up RICE
« on: Wednesday 12 September 07 13:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to find my RICE relatives who ended up in London but on the 51 census say they are from Lewes. My direct relative is Henry RICE who appears to have been born abt 1790. There is also a W. RICE (William is a family name so likely to be that) born 1787. Both are Bricklayers in the same area of London, so I would be surprised if they're not brothers.

Any help would be fantastic.

Thanks  Sarah  :D

Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / Marriage Lookup - YOUNG/CRANE
« on: Friday 20 July 07 11:09 BST (UK)  »
I'm hoping someone can help me to find a marriage.

I have my relative Richard YOUNG marrying Elizabeth CRANE in 1820 in Codicote. She dies in 1823 and on the 1841 census he is then living with Catherine YOUNG nee LAWRANCE (Elizabeth's Auntie) & her elderly parents.

Richard dies in 1849 & on the 51 census she is Catherine YOUNG living back with her sister as a nurse. She dies as YOUNG so I've no reason to believe they didn't marry except for the family connection. (marrying you nieces husband!!)

So far I've been able to find no marriage which I would assume would be in the Codicote area.

Can anyone help at all?

Sarah  :)
