Scotland / SP BMDs Extras - What should I do with them?
« on: Thursday 11 August 05 23:33 BST (UK)  »
I'm at the tyding up stage of my research on mostly MacDonalds from Moidart (Argyll and Inverness-Shire) and I'm embarassed by the number of extra (wrong!) certificates I have accumulated on my account with SP.   Any suggestions on what, if anything, I can do with them?

Thomas's family info:

Parents: Patrick b. 1760/70s m. Catherine Kelly. Patrick Durneen listed in Edergole 1830 Tithe Applotment book leasing land. Known children:

1. Philip, bachelor, 1798-1889, farmer in Edergole.
2. John b.1805 m. Mary Martin 1809-1882. Moved to Lanarkshire, Scotland. Have descendants.
3. Catherine, spinster, 1806-1876, lived with Thomas.
4. Mary 1821-1888 m. James Tully 1821-1889 in 1853 in Parish of Ematris. James's parents John and Mary (McIntyre/McMahon?). Moved to Lanarkshire early 1850s. Have descendants.
5. Thomas 1822-1914 m. Anne McPhilips b. 1851c in St Mary's Coravaccan. Thomas was a farmer in Edergole. Anne's father was Edward, also a farmer, from Kilnaharvey (?). Had at least one son, Patrick, b. 1886c.
6. A Patrick Dorrington is shown marrying a Mary Harrison in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire in 1850. I think he may also be a brother. No further info on him. Emigrated? John and Mary used Dorrington after moving to Lanarkshire.

The surname Durnan/Durnin is fairly rare in Co Monaghan. Does anyone recognise this family?

Many thanks.

Technical Help / Scotlandspeople - System Upgrade user problems
« on: Friday 03 June 05 10:48 BST (UK)  »
After a few weeks break, I logged on to ScotlandsPeople site last night. They have obviously had a major system upgrade recently. All looking good until I try to review my previous searches. I have spent 4 months researching family using the site. I have nearly 400 searches on my account and spent hundreds of pounds (and hours!).

On trying to view old searches I now find that the location filter I used is no longer there. This means that, for example, my MacDonald search in Acharacle over a 10 year period which was 2 pages long, has been carried over to the new system without the location, ie I get all MacDonalds in Scotland....thousands of them!!  I can only get to view the no. of pages of my original search and am asked to pay to view the rest! The only previous searches which are as the original are census searches that I carried out, they still have the location filter I applied.

I have emailed SP last night and currently waiting for a response.  I just wonder whether anyone else using the site has had this problem recently.

Holding my breath at the moment...don't know whether to scream very loud or cry!!
