Could anyone expert in deciphering/identifying job names in the 1841 census identify the job name given to 14yo James Jones living with his widowed mother (my gt gt gt grandmother Margaret nee Thomas) and 2 sisters in Hafod Village/St John, Swansea. The description appears to be a generic "Coppar" [sic] but would appreciate other opinions. The ref. is HO107/1424/4; District 102..https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/8979/images/GLAHO107_1423_1424-0236?pId=14222689

Flintshire / Deciphering events in the Mold registers
« on: Wednesday 16 June 21 20:04 BST (UK)  »
In the process of looking for a marriage at Mold for Thomas Eubule (Iball) and Catherine? about 1700, it appears that that the parish clerks/vicars lumped together baptisms, burials, and marriages rather than separating the entries into different sections. So, have not been able to find this marriage. Many of the entries at this time are also in Latin and some used abbreviations I do not recognise viz. for 1700 (p.109 of the Ancestry records for Mold,1674-1722), in the last column, "seph, Bh, ijsunch??, maybe others too.

Any help much appreciated. Even better, if any one can locate the Thomas Eubule (Iball) and Catherine marriage.

In anticipation, many thanks and best wishes

Flintshire / The Chemistry?, Mancot, Flintshire
« on: Friday 11 June 21 20:00 BST (UK)  »
The 16 July 1824 burial record @ Hawarden of my 4th gt grandmother, Elizabeth Bennion (nee Iball) states "Elizabeth wife of Wlliam Bennion Labourer at the Chemistry, Abode Mancot, Flints".

Not familiar with the area, I checked on Google and found a Chemistry Lane in Mancot. Can some kind person with local knowledge of the area please tell me what the Chemistry was. I'm guessing it was some kind of chemical plant. What was it producing, and is there any information available on this works?

In anticipation of kind assistance, many thanks.

Best wishes

I have found the marriage of one of my ggfathers/mothers on FamilySearch: 14Dec1846, Robert Jones-Elizabeth Thomas @ Holy Trinity Church of England Parish Church, Watergate Street, Chester.

However, there is no image of the marriage doc on FamilySearch - which appears to comply with the info @ https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Chester_Holy_Trinity,_Cheshire_Genealogy, that no images are available for marriages at this church, 1654-1934.

Does anyone know whether there are any bishops' transcripts for this church for 1846, please, which include marriage records and are online?

I think the original marriage records (and bishops' transcripts) for this date are held at the Cheshire Record office. I dont know whether the RO is open yet, but wonder whether anyone is planning a visit, and could obtain an image of the marriage record for me?

In anticipation, many thanks and best wishes

I think one of my gggfathers Robert Jones was born @ Flint Common 23 February 1798, the son of John Jones and Mary baptised at Northop (presumably St. Eurgain and St. Peter's Parish Church), 25 February 1798. I also think Robert's sister Anne was born @ Caerfallwch, baptised at Northop.

I'm assuming Robert was John and Mary's first child, but have not yet confirmed. So, the target dates would be c1795-1798.

I'm  looking for John and Mary's marriage. I've just discovered on Ancestry that Northop has marriage records only from 1804.

I wonder, could those who have knowledge of this area's records suggest the best alternative to Northop's parish records to check for the marriage. Mold? Harwarden? or somewhere else. I understand Caerfallwch was not created until 1876, Bistre not until 1844.

In anticipation, many thanks and best wishes

Could some kind person please decipher the township of one of my distant relatives from the Northup Parish Registers?

The entries are on p. 136 of the christenings for 1798, 9th and 10th lines down:

"Lobrook major?? Anne D of John Jones & Mary his wife [born 19 Feb], bapt 21 Feb"
"Flint Corn Mill?? Robert S of John Jones & Mary his wife [born 23 Feb] bapt 25 Feb".

Anne and Robert appear to be children of the same parents, but the interval between the birth dates suggests they are not. I think Robert is one of my 3rd gt grandfathers.

I'm not familiar with this area of north Wales. Can anyone decipher the townships for me, please? "Flint Corn Mill (sic) also appears further down the same page, as dows "Lobrook major??".

Yet again, a small jpeg file of the page does not load on Rootschat.

In anticipation, many thanks and best wishes

Could someone please help me decipher the attached baptismal record of 1712 from Mold, Flintshire, Wales, which appears to be in Latin?

My best guess is "Ricard (Richard) f[ilius]/son of Thomas Eabul & oh cath. ux. opus &I Boosfress? [word at end of line above; Richard's abode] Marie (Mary) [whose father] is Johan (John) .... oh Maria/Mary ux. opus de Mould (Mold)."

No idea where Boosfress? is but it appears several times on the same page.

Any assistance much appreciated. Happy to send record.

Best wishes

I wonder whether some kind person could help me find two pieces of information relating to a distant deceased relative, John Carter, who died of his wounds either 1 or 2 August 1916:

1. According to the Merseyside Roll of Honour @ http://www.merseysiderollofhonour.co.uk/obits.php John served with the Royal Field Artillery (RFA) and at aged 20 was killed in action 2 August 1916 - probably during the Battle of the Somme, which of course is in France.

Although there are several First World War casualties named John Carter on this site and elsewhere, this reference undoubtedly relates to my John Carter because it mentions him being the only son of Arthur and Ann Carter (nee Owens) of 74 Canterbury Street, Garston, which I know was his parents' address.

Unfortunately, however, the link on this website to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site is broken, so I have no idea either where he died (France or Flanders?) or where he is buried. My search on the CWGC website yielded no results either.

Ancestry throws up several military index cards on various John Carters, all of similar age, serving with the RFA in WW1 but none give a home address or family that would definitely confirm my JC. However, one Ancestry source does confirm a JC of Garston who died of wounds in France or Flanders 1 August 1916 and that he served as a bombardier with the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery (Regiment No. 930). So, probably, my John Carter.

2. The reference at the Merseyside Roll of Honour @ http://www.merseysiderollofhonour.co.uk/obits.php also indicates a report of John's death in the [Liverpool] Evening Express, 14 August 1916. As was common at the time, casualty reports in newspapers typically include a photograph of the deceased.

Unfortunately, I cannot find any online access to this publication for this date. Neither am I anywhere near Liverpool to check local hard copy sources. I wonder therefore whether some kind person can tell me where images of the Evening Express are located (either online or hard copy) and whether they would be willing to track down the relevant report on John's death for me, hopefully with a photo.

There may also be other newspaper reports on his death, for example, in the Garston Weekly News. If anyone know where images of this newspaper for this date may be accessed, I would appreciate them letting me know.

I would appreciate any help anyone could give.

Many thanks

Best wishes

I'm looking for records of the deaths and burials of Isaac & Elizabeth Fletcher and would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

I have Isaac baptised @ Gateacre 11 May 1752 (son of Francis), married to Elizabeth Cookson 12 Dec 1774 @ St Michael's Parish Church, Huyton With Roby; and Elizabeth Cookson (dau of William) bapt @ St Nicholas', Liverpool 23 Jul 1752. They had 11 children between 1775 and 1799, baptised variously at Gateacre, Cuerdley (a chapel of Farnworh Church, Farnworth, Widnes), Ainsworth (Presbyterian) & Warrington.

My mother's records from the 1980s indicate that both died at Bold (another chapel of Farnworh Church outside Widnes) Isaac 15 Feb 1831 and Elizabeth 1 Aug 1852.

Unfortunately, I cannot find any records of their deaths/burials in the parish registers at Farnworth. Can anyone help finding these records, please?

Also I cannot find Elizabeth (Fletcher) in either the 1841 or 1851 censuses.

Many thanks and best wishes

John
