Essex / Missing place of marriage 1704
« on: Sunday 18 March 18 05:59 GMT (UK)  »
According to a record on SEAX: -

John HILLS married Sarah RUST in late 1704 x Lic. (Bishop of London Consist. Court)

They were both from the Thaxted, Lt Dunmow area but I can't find the actual church where the marriage was held despite searching lots of PR's.

I'd appreciate any ideas re the church or town or any thoughts or suggestions .

Thanks

Quaker Family History / Quaker Library - London
« on: Wednesday 21 February 18 09:13 GMT (UK)  »
Recently I wrote to the Quakers Library via their "Contact Us" page on their website
https://www.quaker.org.uk/resources

I haven't had an acknowledgement or a reply yet.
Would anyone know if they usually reply to emails and how long this usually takes?

I don't want to write again yet - particularly if they're busy or simply volunteers doing their best with lots of requests for help.

Thanks kindly

Essex / Illegitimate children found - Thomas King Forster & George King Gold
« on: Saturday 20 January 18 10:19 GMT (UK)  »
I've just come upon a couple of illegitimate children acknowledged in their father's will.

Have no idea if either child survived and they are not connected to my tree. I have no other information.

In case it helps someone somewhere sometime ...

Daniel KING (senr) of Southminster mentions in his will circa 1792:
His illegitimate soon George GOULD, aged about 8 years
Also mentions:
His illegitimate son Thomas Foster (also spelt FORSTER on same page). Thomas was under 14 yrs old when will written.

Quick investigation found:
George King GOLD - Bp 31 Dec 1782 Southminster, son of Ann GOLD
Thomas King FORSTER - Bp 11 Apr 1790 Southminster, son of Martha Forster.
   - Martha Forster was also Daniel King's housekeeper.

Hope this might help somebody

Cheers

The Common Room / Tithe Maps & Census comparison
« on: Wednesday 17 January 18 09:42 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks to The Genealogist I have a copy of the 1842 Tithe Apportionment map (brilliant source ;D )
I also have the 1841 & 1851 census for the same town in Herts and therefore comparing the two in an attempt to pinpoint an exact address.

Has anyone been successful in locating an exact location as per Tithe Map AND that location matching the census ... eg between 2 pubs/ next to a school or whatever.

I'm not expecting specific help re my lot - just would like to know if Tithe Maps are "usually" spot-on with their drawings/locations of key features.

Thanks

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Cambridge Marriage Licences 1740-1749
« on: Sunday 26 November 17 10:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

Looking for a Marriage Licence dated 1745 for Stephen Moule
This is reported on a Cambs/Ely Marriage Licence 1700-1749 (CD/014) via CFHSociety (summary search on their website).

I have searched the Cambs Marr Licences available online (archive.org), FindMyPast - Cambs/Ely Licences , Ancestry etc and also searched for the actual marriage (if it really happened) but have drawn a BLANK everywhere for either the Licence or actual marriage record.

I've emailed CFHS and asked if they could/would check their records in case of a mistranscription but no one appears to be available/answering.

If a kind person somewhere could please tell me a little more about the content of this marriage licence (1745) I'd be ever so grateful.

Thank you kindly

Cheers

Australia / Mrs M Walters Moore
« on: Thursday 12 October 17 07:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

I'm looking for further information about Mrs M Walters Moore.

She (and her husband) were on the ship "Meridian" in 1853 when it was wrecked on Amsterdam Island in the Indian ocean. Late in her life (1900) she told the story of their journey to Australia.

A copy is available online at ...
http://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-52758751

A Mr & Mrs Moore (no "Walters") were on the original passenger list on the "Meridian" and the "Emma Colvin" which brought the wreck survivors from Mauritius to Australia.

The only 2 items I can pinpoint are that Mrs Moore said they were living in London before they left UK. She was still alive in 1900 and living in or near Sydney when she told the story.

I'd like to find her first name or her husband's name and find more info about their life in Australia.

Suggestions/ideas would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Di

Hertfordshire / WILLIAN - burials 1813-1934 available
« on: Monday 20 February 17 09:05 GMT (UK)  »
Just browsing parish registers on Find My Past and I found the following:

WILLIAN burials 1813-1934 (original parish records)
These aren't listed on the PR results page but are actually listed as

WARE, St Mary the Virgin - BURIALS 1813-1834
NOTE - it's the one that has image count of 93 (not 100+)
(interesting that they are up to 1934)

Hi

I have joined 3 pics together only to compare the dates.
All pictures were taken by Maull & Fox at 187a Piccadilly
Plus they appear to have been using the same desk in all pictures.
 - Sorry I don't have the back
From what I understand there is a 20 year gap between at least 2 of them

Would anyone kindly confirm a rough date for each from their attire? - if possible please

Thanks

D
