Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Re: BARKHAM of RISBY lookup *COMPLETED*
« on: Monday 24 December 18 11:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi!
Too busy to say much - wrapping presents and eating mince pies etc.

Great to hear from you.  Might you be related to Naomi Zillah Barkham who married Robert Banks in 1906?  She was my gt-gt-gt-aunt.  My grandmother was Zillah Mary Barkham.

I wrote those Rootschat messages in 2012.  Since then I have had a professional researcher do the Risby searches and further back.. yes, to the late 1600s but there are lots of ???s to sort.

We must exchange email addresses if you are OK about that.  I have loads of information including2 or 3 early wills.

Back to you after Christmas -
best wishes -
Adam Bunting

Surrey Lookup Requests / Re: ?MI? ISAAC WARREN bur at Camberwell 1771
« on: Saturday 03 June 17 17:11 BST (UK)  »
Thank you very much indeed to everyone.  I have loads of facts about Warren but am curious to find whether there is / was an inscription as his age and d.o.b. are unknown.  I shall contact the SoG but will keep this open a little longer in case anyone has a personal copy - I believe the Surrey FHS has a copy but am not a member as I have no Surey roots.

Thanks again!

I would be very grateful if any kind person could find out whether there is an MI for Isaac WARREN, Chief Accountant for the East India Company who was buried at St Giles Camberwell in 1771.  I live abroad and am unable to travel at present.  With grateful thanks in advance - Adam Bunting.

Northumberland / Re: Hartley Widow
« on: Monday 03 December 12 10:40 GMT (UK)  »
More than 30 years ago  - and before the censuses were online - in fact, before computers were being widely used for genealogy, my wife Joan and I researched the Hartley Relief Fund and published the results in the Journal of the Northumberland & Durham F H S.

We started on this because Joan has a 'disaster glass' sold to one of her ancestors to help raise funds and originally we wanted to find out if she had any ancestors involved in the Disaster.  She didn't as it turned out.  Th ancestor was in nearby Seaton Delaval Colliery.

Now many years later the NDFHS has placed our article online and here is the link: http://www.ndfhs.org.uk/Articles/HartleyDis.html - hope you enjoy it!  (Ref: Journal NDFHS, Vol 7 No. 4 (Sep 1982) pages 84 - 92).

Kind regards

Matt,

Sorry not to have replied earlier - have not been 'genealoging' in recent days.

What you say is very interesting re the Bankheads and I agree that Elizabeth McKeown was the daughter of John, a weaver.

Many thanks for your help - I'll keep this open to see if there are any other contributions at least til the New Year.

kind regards

Adam

Thank you for your advice, Matt.  I do already have a record of the marriage of Hugh McKeown and Elizabeth Bankhead on 4 April 1847 at Portglenone, Antrim.

However, it seems the couple emigrated almost immediately after their marriage and all the children were born in Bo'ness.  The family story is that they ran away from Ireland, but to me it seems more likely that Hugh McKeown had heard of the need for more miners at Bo'ness and he went there in search of work.

I'm interested by what you say about the connection of Bankheads to Northumberland.  I have often wondered why the McKeowns moved from Bo'ness to the Northumberland coal-field.  It's possible that Elizabeth Bankhead had heard of improved working conditions down in Northumberland from members of her family.  In the end the family did very well in the mining industry.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / HOLBORN ST ANDREW: A MISSING PAGE
« on: Tuesday 13 November 12 20:57 GMT (UK)  »
The baptisms of Holborn St Andrew are online with 'Ancestry'.  However, as luck always has it, the very page I would like to see has been omitted!

July 19 - 2 September are clearly missing, presumably not photo'd.

The record Im looking for is the baptism on 9 Aug 1736 of Charlotta Eyles daughter of Isaac & 'Elisha' Warren.  This is listed in the IGI but I should be delighted to have a transcription of the original record.

This would entail someone taking the time at London Met. Archives to look up the original, and I should be very grateful to anyone who can do this.

I have notified Ancestry of the missing page.

Thanks and regards to all -

Adam.

Jackie,

Many thanks indeed for your help.  I would not be surprised if my ancestor is related to one of these families.  We don't as yet know what her mother's name was, and know only that her father was John.

For now I'll keep these recorda and hope to find more in the future.  Thanks for your time and work!

Regards

Adam
