The Common Room / Importing gedcoms
« on: Tuesday 11 July 06 14:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

As I'm sure you're aware, the tree builder on GenesReunited does not allow you to link two existing people on a tree. Now, if I've already done this in Legacy, what will happen if I import the gedcom onto GenesReunited?

Any thoughts? and thanks very much in advance :)

Caz

PS: should this be in technical help? sorry if it's in the wrong forum :(

Cambridgeshire Completed Lookups / Webb - parish registers
« on: Thursday 29 June 06 19:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'd be very grateful if someone could look up the christening of Paramus Webb (may be spelt otherwise - Parowmus, Parrowmas etc). I have his place of birth down as Barnwell, Cambs in about 1836.

Many thanks in advance

Completed Census Requests / Webbs - trouble finding them. Help please!
« on: Monday 26 June 06 20:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm looking for the Webb family in the census returns and I'm having trouble finding them - I think a fresh pair of eyes and a fresh search style might help!

Here is what I know:

Paramus (open to A LOT of spelling variations) Webb b. abt 1836 (I have his death cert)
His marriage to Mary Ann Luck was registered in Halstead in 1858
In the 1861 census, they are living in Hadlow with their son Thomas
In the 1901 census, they are living in gypsy vans in Lambourne

Unfortunately I can't find them in between 1861 and 1901. i can't find Paramus before 1861 either. In 1861 his birth place is given as Barnell, cambs but where is this? I've found Mary's family though. There are loads of IGI entries for them!

Thanks in advance

The Lighter Side / Had to share the good news
« on: Saturday 24 June 06 11:24 BST (UK)  »
I just had to share the good news - a brick wall has been broken!  :D :D

A death cert arrived this morning which shows that my Mary Ann Webb was the daughter of a certain Paramus Webb who i have already found in the census returns.

Am so happy!

Mum's reaction "I don't see what all the fuss is about really"  ::) ::) ::)

Will she ever learn???

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The Lighter Side / A great find :)
« on: Thursday 22 June 06 18:46 BST (UK)  »
I'm really pleased today, but despair at my mum  :D

I was after a needle and thread and remembered these odd buttons that mum used to keep in her sewing box. I asked about them and she said "oh yeah, they're the buttons off your great-granddad's fireman's uniform"!!!!

Then to top it all off she goes "oh and I have his service certificate upstairs, a picture of him getting married to his second wife and an article from 1938 about the fire brigade he was in"

I can't believe that she neglected to inform me of this, knowing that I'm doing the family tree!!!!!

Her excuse? "I didn't think it was important..."  ::) ::) ::)

I'm going to post the fire service stuff on the occupations board if anyone else is interested - the article is just about the Dunmow fire brigade and makes mention of the names Colonel John Mayhew (and M.P.) and the head of the fire brigade Captain L. T. Thredder. it also makes hilarious reading.

Completed Census Requests / Ancestry records
« on: Thursday 15 June 06 18:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

This has probably been posted before so I apologise first!

I just got an ancestry subscription recently and have been using the bmd and census records but what other records have people found particularly useful on there? (I'm not looking for anything outside of the UK)

All thoughts very welcome

Caz :)
