London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1871 (Poplar) - LAMB
« on: Saturday 14 January 06 18:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, hope I'm putting this is on the right board. My apologies if not.

Could someone look for James LAMB on the 1871 census, please? He would have been about 16, so I assume his relationship to the head would be 'son'. He was born in Poplar. I have him on the 1881 (living at Bromley St Leonard if that helps) and also the 1891 (please see the following thread for that as I don't want to waste anyone's time - Casalguidi has already been so helpful with this).

I know nothing about his parents or siblings, so I very much look forward to hearing from one of you good Rootschatters! You have already helped me so much. Thank you all. :)

Thanks so much in advance,
Vicky

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / 1891 (Essex) - LAMB

Could someone please look for the following family on the 1891 census, please?

Head: James Lamb (a painter, according to his daughter's 1905 marriage certificate)
Daughter: Mary Edith Lamb (later Mary Edith Barrington)
Son: Arthur Albert Lamb (whom I believe never married)

All I know is that Mary was born around 1886 and I think Arthur was older than her.

Thank you in advance,
Vicky

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / WALKER 1871 - Southwark
« on: Monday 19 December 05 17:45 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone look for Robert and Mary Walker on the 1871 census for me, please? If they were still alive, then Robert would have been 79 and Mary would have been 75. Robert, a carpenter, was born in Bermondsey c 1792 and Mary was born in Shropshire c 1790. I have them both on the 1861 census and I'm trying to find out when they died as I type this request. My apologies if they'd already passed by the time of the 1871 census, but I'd very much appreciate it if someone could still have a quick look for me.

It's the 1851 that I really want to see, but I don't have an address for them, so is all hope lost?

Many thanks in advance,
Vicky

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / 1891 census - CARTER, James
« on: Friday 25 November 05 23:25 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me where James Carter was born, please? I've had no joy with the 1881, athough then he was a machine printer living in Newington. He was born in 1859. His wife Eliza (born 1857) and daughter Rose (born 1880) were both born in Southwark - and I'm hoping that's where he was born, too.

Many thanks in advance,
Vicky

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / 1871 census - CARTER

I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to look at the 1871 census for Alice Hannah Carter, please? If she's on there, then she would be about 9 (she was born in 1862). In 1881, she was a servant at White Horse, 297 Rotherhithe Street, North Side, Rotherhithe. I'm just wondering if she's related to my lot and hoping that some other Carter names will help establish where she fits in.

With sincere thanks in advance,
Vicky

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / 1901 census - CARTER
« on: Thursday 24 November 05 13:27 GMT (UK)  »
Would anyone be able to look at the 1901 census for Jane Carter, please? She was aged 71, born in Stepney and residing in the civil parish of Mile End Old Town. She was a needlewoman and I think also my g-g-g-grandmother. I believe her husband was called Charles, but I don't know if he was still living at this time. Her daughter could be mentioned, called Alice Elizabeth Dwan, but generally known as Eliza. She'd have been 33 or thereabouts.

I can't seem to find Jane on the 1881 census, so this is just the start for me!

With many thanks in advance,
Vicky

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / EBSWORTH & CARTER, Bermondsey/Rotherhithe/Southwark
« on: Wednesday 26 October 05 22:37 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if these surnames mean anything to anyone. Please get in touch if so. I think my g-g-g-grandmother's name was Jane Ebsworth, who became Carter. Seems she lived between the 1830s and 1920s. My g-g-grandmother was Alice Elizabeth Carter, but everyone knew her as Eliza. I really want to find out something about her parents, if possible.

Any information very gratefully received.

Many thanks,
Vicky

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / BIVRI lookup - CARTER & EBSWORTH
« on: Wednesday 26 October 05 22:24 BST (UK)  »
Hello there,

Could someone please look to see if there's a marriage between a Jane Ebsworth and a Mr ? Carter between 1858 and 1868? I'm expecting it would have been in the Bermondsey/Rotherhithe/Southwark neck of the woods.

Many thanks in advance,
Vicky
