Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: 1650s Scots - mostly undecipherable to me.
« on: Wednesday 20 January 16 20:47 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks for that.

Were Thomas, Richard, John, James and Alexander all dead at this time, or is there not enough information to go on?

With other information I have this would say that Richard was the grandfather.

Thomas was the eldest son,
John (elder) was the father of Thomas, Richard, John, James and Alexander,
and his other brother was Richard.  Richard had one son called James

John (junior) got the lands (unless Thomas has a son called John as well).

This could put my 10th great grandfather as Richard, takes me back to the Tutors, and I could call it enough!

I will need to get the full page translated, but many many thanks for your help.

Disposition by James Bruntoun, eldest lawful son of the late Richard Bruntoun in Bold, and heir of provision to the late Thomas Bruntoun eldest brother of his said father Richard, in favour of John Bruntoun in Bold his cousin, of the five husband lands of the town and lands of Bold in the Sheriffdom of Peebles

David Brunton was born around 1835 in Carnwarth, son to William Scott Brunton (born 28th March 1808 in Yarrow) and Janet Inglis,

Due to a court case in 1834 the actual father of David is dubious to say the least. Its possible his father was a Richard Hill.

Lanarkshire / James White born 1803 Carluke, Married Jean Brunton
« on: Tuesday 04 February 14 22:11 GMT (UK)  »
I'm interesting in any information on James White, born or baptised  17 Jan 1803 in Carluke, died possibly 1840. In particular I'm trying to trace his marriage certificate to Jean Brunton and finding where she was born.

He had 4 children

Betty White 14 Jan 1826 carluke 18 Feb 1900 carluke
Robert White 18 Nov 1827 carluke 06 Aug 1897 carluke
Mary White 27 Dec 1829 carluke
David White 20 Oct 1832 Carluke   1841 carluke

Is this persons family familiar to anyone?

Would appreciate any 'Tailor's records' that you may be able to find.

theres some "incorporation of tailor" minute books and other records at Hawick Hub, and also with museum services in Selkirk.

Scotland / Re: Burial Query

you're kidding me!

I just call or email and the helpful people here (east coast of scotland) supply all the information for free. Had one of the gravediggers call up head office, get the lair number, locate it and take me to it, another time a gravedigger drove to head office to get the lair map, came back and took me to it.

My attempts to get them to actually dig up the cemetery to search for unmarked graves from the 1600s has so far failed to work though.

hi is there a charge for this

No. you just email or call them and they will help. You may then have the lair number, but pinpointing it in the graveyard without a lair map is impossible. The gravediggers and the council have the maps. Again, I have found them to be extremely helpful in actually taking me to the exact position of the lair.

David Bell, Traquair, died 1691. Worked as a tailor.

Anyone come across this person, his wife or children?

I know his gravestones in Traquair.

However, I have strangers buried in a family bought lair in Selkirk. In Traquair and Yarrow the lairs are still ours alone.

I withdraw that statement as it turns out its a 1st cousin x2 removed of mine in the lair, and granddaughter of one of the occupants.
