New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Thomas Skudder
« on: Saturday 10 December 22 03:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

I have not read all the replies but I can confidently reply that a great many records for the Anglican Cemetery, Ashley Street, Rangiora, have been lost. My Grt Grt grandmother should be there with her husband. He is there, with a headstone, but she isn't. A nephew of hers should be there, but he isn't. His death certificate says that this is his place of burial. I have other family members who are buried in this cemetery, but there is no paperwork to pinpoint their plots.

A few years ago a hedge was removed and a group of unmarked graves was found, but no records were found that may have identified the graves.

About 20 years ago the local branch of the NZSOG compiled a CD for all North Canterbury Cemeteries, using council, church, undertakers, and newspaper records. I have a copy of this CD, and sorry, your Skudder is not there.

Regards,
Jean Price

Shanreagh,

So far the combined skills of several Roots Chatters have yet to turn up the death date of Edward Searancke. He has done a really good job of disappearing.
I will let everyone know when he is found.

I would like to thank all the Roots Chatters who found information for me.

We now know the death date and place and whereabouts of the will of Edward Francis Clement Searancke's wife. Unfortunately we cannot read the will as it has not yet ben digitalized - I would need to visit Auckland Archives and I am not able to do that. (Please note - this is NOT a request for someone to visit Auckland Archives).

We now know a lot about Morris Aaron Lawson but the whereabouts of his headstone has not been found. Perhaps it was a figment of my imagination!!!! The Waikanae Funeral director was most helpful. He even checked with the Kapiti District Council to see if they had any information. (Which they don't have).

We also know quite a bit about Edward's sister including her vital dates. There is no mention of Edward in either her will of that of her husband Mervyn Cooksley.

I have left a message for another Searancke researcher on WikiTree, and I will also go through the BDM's in the Australian states and territories.  Then I think I will leave it.

Once again. many thanks for all the work you did.

Minniehaha, you just won't believe this. Waikanae Funeral Home have replied and say they have never heard of Morris Aaron Lawson. How can I write back and say thank you for your help when they haven't. Perhaps I'll just go away and investigate tie Smith family.

Good morning Wivenhoe,

I do not have a marriage for Ellen Pentecost/Searancke and Morris Lawson because the Privacy Laws in New Zealand state that marriages can only appear on the official Births Deaths and Marriages site if they took place more than 80 years ago. So only marriages which took place on the 10 October 1942 are visible today. Tomorrow we will be able to see marriages which took place on the 11 October 1942.

I will have to admit that I am assuming they were married. But as the name Lawson is used on her headstone, in her death registration, and in her will, I think I am fairly safe with that assumption.

Thank you for your time
Jean

Thank you Minniehaha,

Thank you for the death notices.

I have sent an email to Waikanae Funeral Home, hoping they will tell me what happened to the ashes.

Regards

Apologies for the confusion.

The four children were born to Edward and Ellen.

I put her second marriage in as she obviously knew what had happened to him or had waited the seven years necessary to have him declared dead.

Good evening all,

I have lost this gentleman.
He was born in New Zealand 15 May 1916.
Was in the New Zealand Police Force - based in Auckland  in 1951 when he was an executor for his mother's will.
Married Ellen Clara Cecilia Pentecost 15 March 1941.
Was father to four children - the last one born 1951.

I can find no trace of him after 1951.

His wife married Morris Aaron Lawson after 1942 (the year Morris's first wife died)

Can any one help?
Thank you
Jean Price

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Arthur Valentine Williams (1881 - 1965)

What a wonderful collection of information you have given me.
I will now be able to write a biography for her, with lots of sources.
I looked at her father's will, and in the probate she names her husband as Arthur Valentine. That really made me confident that we had the correct Dorothy. She even gave her marriage date of 9 April 1943, which of course is not available on the New Zealand BDM site yet.
So thank you to everyone who came to my rescue.
