United States of America / Tericy CAMPBELL born abt 1809 Caldwell County, Kentucky
« on: Wednesday 14 September 16 01:03 BST (UK)  »
All of my attempts to access Caldwell County births for the period 1805-1812 come up empty regarding Tericy CAMPBELL born abt 1809 to unknown parents.  She married Samuel JONES 14 Oct 1822 in Caldwell County and appears on only one named census - the 1850 of District 1, Caldwell County.  The 1860 census of Princeton, Caldwell County, Kentucky shows five of her children living together.  We are fairly certain Samuel died in 1850 although no record of that can be located either.

Family tradition states she was 13 when married to Samuel Jones - her age in 1850 is 40, so possible that's correct.

The death of Tericy is unknown and whether or not she married again is also unknown.

Is it possible to ask for a search of the Caldwell County Clerk's records to see if a birth is listed for Tericy?  I have the marriages of Rueben CAMPBELL and William CAMPBELL in 1809 in Caldwell County, but nothing to prove one of them might be Tericy's parents.

Whatever help can be offered, I am most appreciative.

Devon Lookup Requests / Re: Sarah ALLOWEY death/burial - East Stonehouse 1860
« on: Tuesday 05 July 16 16:42 BST (UK)  »
Thank you Rosie.  I do have that information.

My question is who are her parents?  I wonder if she was baptized before she died?

Affording a certificate at this time is not an option so parish registers are the other option.

Thank you for your help.  The death and burial in 1861 is my 3ggmother Sarah PETHERICK ALLOWAY.  However, I am still stumped by the Sarah in 1860.  The fact she was only 4 months old should help me locate her birth/baptism and parents.

I appreciate the information.

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Removal Orders - Poor Law Records - ALLOWAY

Notes:single
WSRO ref:77/39
Record source:Wiltshire Removal Orders
Data provider:Wiltshire Family History Society

Ann is my 4th ggmother.  Her son my 3rd ggfather William ALLOWAY was also removed from Bradford to Antony, Cornwall when he was 11 (one record says 7) years old at the same time.  I have his information from Antony Poor Law records and can track him until his death in Devon in 1886.

My question has to do with Ann.  She simply disappears after this removal order.  Are there any Poor Law Records or similar covering Hilperton that might help me find out where she went or what happened to her?  I have no age so no idea when she was born.

I have not been able to locate a baptism or birth record for William in 1816, but he is always consistent with giving his birthplace as Antony or Torpoint within Antony, Cornwall.  I have looked for Ann in Cornwall to see if any Removal Orders mention her - without success.  She doesn't appear in any census record - at least anyone I can identify as my Ann.  And I cannot identify any of the Ann ALLOWAYs who died in or around Hilperton as mine.

The only real evidence I have of her is the Removal Order.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Garfield House, Isle of Wight Information
« on: Friday 06 November 15 21:24 GMT (UK)  »
Is it possible to find the staff and students of Garfield House between 1916 and 1939?  I have googled and found photos and very limited information on the place.  I have discovered it was a 'School for Young Ladies' after 1901 and may have been called St. Peters before Garfield House.  Apparently named for the assassinated Pres. of the United States.

The worker I am interested in is Jeannie CADDY who was there in 1939 (Register) and I am wondering if she was there in the years above.

The student might be Patricia or Lilian (Lily) or Elizabeth unknown.  She was born in 1911 and also appears on the 1939 register with her husband and a person whose name we do not recognize.  Pat had a habit of changing her name several times, so really not sure what she might have used at the school.

Her daughter is still living and is approaching 80 years of age and would dearly like to know who her mother really was.

I know this is a tricky request, but if anyone can help, I would be most appreciative.

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Maidstone Parish Registers - GRAY

Russell, what do you think of this baptism in Hillingden, Middlesex for Mary?  If they followed naming patterns of the day, then her father is likely William Tyler (John William 1797) and this fits.  Hillingdon according to Hammersmith and Fulham website isn't too far away, so again a fit.  I don't know of course, that's why I wondered what you think.  Another thought, they also put Elizabeth with Mary's name for their daughter Mary Elizabeth 1802.

Name:    Mary Tyler
Baptism Date:    22 Oct 1776
Parish:    St Martin, Ruislip
County:    Middlesex
Borough:    Hillingdon
Parent(s):    William Tyler,
Elizabeth Tyler
Record Type:    Baptism
Register Type:    Parish Register

Hmm, doesn't look like the same family in Hampshire - although who knows!!

The family I have are James Grey RUSSELL bn 1832 Boarhunt, Hampshire, son of Thomas RUSSELL and his wife Elizabeth BARNES.  James Grey married 1852 in Alverstoke, Hampshire to Ruth HOUGHTON (bn 1835 Boarhunt to Uriah and Sarah HOUGHTON nee SNELL).  He died in 1909 in Warrandyte, Victoria, Australia, she died in 1916 in Tasmania.  They had 13 children!  All born in and around Melbourne.  Many with the same names as my RUSSELL line, yet I cannot connect them at all.

They appreciated large families I guess because Thomas and Elizabeth BARNES RUSSELL had 11 children all in and around Boarhunt, again with similar names to my lot.  I think for now I will keep them on the back burner while we concentrate on the GREY/GRAY line.

I will let you know what I discover about the Scottish line, it would be good if we can move them further back and fill in more spaces.  Perhaps the TYLER family will get clearer.  What we probably have to do is figure out what churches were in the Hammersmith area of London and then search them for Mary's baptism.

Talk later,
Glenys

Hello again Russell:  In answer to your question as to whether it is uncommon for someone to marry a sibling of their first spouse - I would say it was more common than not.  Although it was technically illegal to marry one's spouse's sibling, it was done and I have four or five scattered throughout my family research.

So now we are up to the John GREY born ca 1749 and his wife Mary EVANS also born ca 1749.  I actually found a John GREY in Scotland who fits very nicely, father is Nathaniel! Might look into him a bit further.  I do wish we could sort Mary TYLER out - will just have to keep searching through the ones from London until we find one (or if we find one) who we can prove is ours.

Also, did I notice on your signature line that you have RUSSELLs from Hampshire?  I have quite a large family of RUSSELL in Hampshire, some of whom went to Australia.  If you would like to share a little of that line I could see if I have the same ones.  Are you familiar with Richard Tyler Russell who married Harriet and lived in Plumstead, Kent?

Thanks for writing back, good to hear from you.
