Northumberland / RVI 1911 census - which parish?
« on: Wednesday 04 January 12 17:46 GMT (UK)  »
HI.

Happy New Year to everyone.

I know from previous research that my great grandfather was a patient at the RVI Newcastle upon Tyne on the Census night April 1911.

I could find him in the summary books prior to the end of this last year but now that 2012 has arrived I cannot find him again.

Does anyone know the parish for the RVI - in 1901 it was St John -  but unfortunately that does not seem to be working.

Any ideas on how to put in search terms for the RVI ...and for that matter St George's Hospital in Morpeth?

Yours NG

Lancashire / Hurst Green and civic cemetery
« on: Tuesday 26 April 11 07:53 BST (UK)  »
Hello to the Lancashire Forum.

I am trying to find my uncle's grave and need a little bit of help trying to understand where I will find it.

My uncle died in 1996 and the BMD states that the death was registered in the Preston and South Ribble area.  There is a subdistrict number 5881c.

If he died in a hospital near the area of Hurst Green where will he likely to be buried?  I presume that there are many large cemeteries around the area of Hirst Green.

Thank you.

Northumberland / Ellington and WW1 army camp
« on: Thursday 13 January 11 08:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi.

I am doing some research of my own about my grandfather who served in WW1.  I found an internet site that mentioned that a Scottish horse battalion was camped at Ellington.

I wonder if anyone who lives near there would know whereabouts it would have been?

Northumberland / Gordon Square Wallsend
« on: Thursday 13 January 11 08:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hello to everybody at RC.

I am writing this post on behalf of a friend who is researching Gordon Square in Wallsend.  Apparently there is a Gordon Square - or something like it in North Shields.

Does anyone have any information on the Wallsend Gordon Square?

I have found a photograph on a website but think that my friend would like to know more about it.

Quaker Family History / Piercebridge and quakers
« on: Friday 04 June 10 20:09 BST (UK)  »
Hello.

Can someone tell me which quaker meeting house people would have likely to have attended if they came from or lived in Piercebridge?

Also which parish would PB have belonged to?

Occupation Interests / What would a petroleum worker do?
« on: Monday 07 September 09 16:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have been doing some family research and find that a distant relative was described as a petroleum labourer.  He lived at a place called Croft which is in Blyth, Northumberland.  The area had a coal pit so wonder if he was involved in this somehow.

Just curious.

Thanks

The Lighter Side / Three wishes time travel
« on: Saturday 15 August 09 17:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi to all on The Lighter Side.

Some while ago I had a dream which was rather strange.  I dreamed that I had been granted the chance to ask two ancestors - obviously a long time dead - one important question each that would help me solve some family research questions.  I can recall that for my second choice I had to make my mind up about which of two vexing ancestors I had to ask the question of.  I presume the answer would have broken down that 'brick wall'. I woke up before I decided who it was that I was going to ask and of, course, what the question was.  I think I had been hoping for a third wish.

If you were granted three chances of your own ancestors who would you ask and what would it be? ::)

Northumberland Resources & Offers / Link: Northumberland farm index for 1860
« on: Wednesday 15 July 09 15:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

Just wondered if you know that there is a good site for Northumberland Farms as in 1860 - they are indexed alphabetically and give the town land and the parish.

Link reported as broken June 2021.  Try

Oxfordshire / Wardington Hall inquiry
« on: Wednesday 03 June 09 08:04 BST (UK)  »
Good Morning to the Oxfordshire Forum.

I would like to make an inquiry about Wardington Hall and am finding it difficult to pinpoint the postal address.  I wondered if anyone from the forum is in or near the village of Wardington.

Yours J.A. (Northumberland Forum)
