Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Trying to find the maiden name of Susannah VERITY

Hi avm228,
I saw that one, but as they had a daughter Hannah in 1842, I think it's unlikely. But I'm not ruling anything out at the moment! :D

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Trying to find the maiden name of Susannah VERITY
« on: Thursday 09 July 15 12:44 BST (UK)  »
Susannah (VERITY) married William VERITY in Askwith in 1841. She was born c1815 in Nidderdale, according to the 1851 census. So far I've been unable to find her maiden name, using Wharfegen, Ancestry, FindmyPast, FamilySearch and FreeReg. Can anyone suggest a new angle of attack?

Best regards,

Keith

Thank you Calverley Lad and Libby,
I didn't think about missing bits of the 1841 census ::).
No wonder I couldn't find them! :(. Never mind, the missing bits may turn up one day, probably when I'm pushing the daisies up ;D
Thanks again,
Keith

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Where were John DUNN & Thomasin JOY nee GILL in 1841?
« on: Saturday 04 July 15 18:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I've been searching everywhere I can think of to find John & Thomasin  in the 1841 census, but have drawn a blank  ???. John was born in 1888, and Thomasin was born in 1899. They were married in Ripon Cathedral in 1835, John was a widower and Thomasin was a widow, and both had children from their previous marriages. They then had three more children together before John died in 1849, Mary born 1837, Jabez born 1839 and Jane born 1843.
If anyone can help me find them in 1841, I would be very grateful.

Best regards,
Keith

PS I should have mentioned that they lived in the Bewerley/ Pateley Bridge area.

Dunbartonshire / Re: Early life of David Young 1796-C1849 a Surgeon from Cardross.

Hi,
just sent off an e-mail to the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons today and got a reply almost straight away  :D. The manager there told me she had looked through their archives, but couldn't find David there, and also she had checked the archives of Glasgow University without any luck there too.
Any new help would be most gratefully received!

:D!! Found him at last!! :D
He was born in Heighington, Durham, then moved to Hutton Magna, Yorkshire, where he married Dorothy CHARGE. I don't think they had any children. When Dorothy died she was buried in her home village of Barton, and when John died he was buried in his home village of Heighington so any mourners must have had quite a journey.
I found him by looking at his will and then using a bit of detective work in the Durham Bishop's Transcripts (thank you Shirl for suggesting that).
If anyone is interested, his parents were John COLLING & Mary DUNN.
Thanks for all hints, I found him in the end!!! ;D

The Common Room / Re: Marriage of Thomas BOYER & Lucy CHARGE around 1773
« on: Friday 19 June 15 10:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi Brie,
my BOYERS were (at least at the marriage of Thomas & Lucy) were in the wool trade, he was a "Woolstapler". From my time at an electronics firm who made textile test equipment, I think that a Woolstapler checked the length of the wool fibres, which would have been a fairly responsible job.
After that time he was a "Gentleman". There were quite a few Clergymen in the family too. But I haven't seen any references to the beer trade.
Best regards
Keith
